Reversible microscale assembly of nanoparticles driven by the phase transition of a thermotropic liquid crystal

The arrangement of nanoscale building blocks into patterns with microscale periodicity is challenging to achieve via self-assembly processes. Here, we report on the phase transition-driven collective assembly of gold nanoparticles in a thermotropic liquid crystal. A temperature-induced transition from the isotropic to the nematic phase leads to the assembly of individual nanometre-sized particles into arrays of micrometre-sized aggregates, whose size and characteristic spacing can be tuned by varying the cooling rate. This fully reversible process offers hierarchical control over structural order on the molecular, nanoscopic, and microscopic level and is an interesting model system for the programmable patterning of nanocomposites with access to micrometre-sized periodicities.

En el presente trabajo abordaremos el tratado hipocrático Sobre los flatos, conocido por su influencia sofista y vocación retórica. Nuestro objetivo es destacar las analogías y referencias de su autor a leyes y principios físicos como el intercambio de calor, los cambios de estado y la circulación de fluidos. Creemos que todo ello forma parte de la intención de otorgar credibilidad al discurso y a las teorías del autor.This paper is about the Hippocratic treatise On Breaths, characterized by its Sophist influence and its rhetoric vocation. The aim of the article is to highlight the similarities and the references did by the author on physical laws such as heat exchange, phase transition and fluid mechanics. In our opinion this references aimed to reinforce the speech and theories of the author.

Production of heat power equipment and provision of agricultural production facilities with it is less than 40 percent, so it is important to conduct research on the development of domestic heat exchange equipment. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in developing the initial requirements for the heat exchanger of an experimental installation in order to gather the energy of the water-ice phase transition for its manufacture. (Materials and methods) Authors conduct patent search on the websites of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Rospatent, Google patents, the European Patent Office and the Eurasian Patent Organization. The article presents drawings using the COMPASS-3D V17 graphic editor. (Results and discussion) The article presents an energy-saving system for maintaining the microclimate of an agricultural facility using a heat pump. It was found that the thermal and physical parameters of the coolant (freezing point, thermal conductivity, solubility of salt, density) as water and salt solutions of various concentrations, as well as electrical and physical parameters (permittivity, tangent of the dielectric loss angle, electrical conductivity, temperature coefficient of electrical conductivity) change during external electrophysical treatment (exposure to an electric field, including electric freezing), magnetic field (including alternating magnetic field in the ultrahigh frequency range, low-frequency magnetic field, weak infra-low frequency magnetic field). (Conclusions) The energy-saving, eco-friendly heat exchange equipment with a heat pump unit is designed to maintain the microclimate of agricultural facilities. The article presents the initial requirements for the heat exchanger of the experimental installation for obtaining the energy of the water-ice phase transition, which will allow producing an experimental sample. Authors have developed a scheme for a heat exchanger of an experimental sample of heat exchange equipment with a heat pump unit for gathering energy of the water-ice phase transition.

The aim of this work is to increase the operational efficiency of the multicomponent multithreaded power units and systems of the TPP using modeling, calculation and optimization. The goal is achieved by solving the following tasks: development of the tasks’ classification system and a unified methodology for the mathematical description of energy formation and mass flows’ processes in multicomponent and multithreaded power units of the TPP; development of a model of a steam turbine power unit; development of a model of heat and mass transfer processes in multi-stage multistream multiphase systems. The most significant results obtained were: the developed unified methodology for the matrix description of the processes of energy and mass flows’ formation in multicomponent multistream energy systems of the TPP. Within the framework of the proposed methodology, a model of a steam turbine power was developed; model solutions were obtained and analyzed in order to calculate the energy characteristics of a heating turbine unit, the reliability and validity of the proposed approach was shown, a mathematical model of multistream multi-stage heat exchange systems were developed. The significance of the results obtained consisted in the development of a simple but informative mathematical model of a thermal power plant turbine generator and a model of multistream multi-stage heat exchange systems, each stage of which can have an arbitrary number of input and output flows with a possible phase transition in heat carriers.ave an arbitrary number of input and output flows with a possible phase transition in heat carriers.
