The effect of carbon nanotubes on the catalytic properties of Rh-Mn-Li/SiO2 catalysts was investigated for CO hydrogenation. The catalysts were comprehensively characterized by means of X-ray power diffraction, N2 sorption, transmission electron microscope, H2–temperature-programmed reduction, CO–temperature-programmed desorption, temperature-programmed surface reaction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that an appropriate amount of carbon nanotubes can be attached to the surface of the SiO2 sphere and can improve the Rh dispersion. Moderate Rh-Mn interaction can be obtained by doping with the appropriate amount of carbon nanotubes, which promotes the formation of strongly adsorbed CO and facilitates the progress of CO insertion, resulting in the increase in the selectivity of C2+ oxygenate synthesis.

This study is considered as a method for producing multifunctional metal composite materials by using Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWNTs). In this research, various metals (Ni, Cu, Ag ) were successfully deposited onto the surface of SWNTs. It has been found that homogenous dispersion and dense nucleation sites are the necessary conditions to form uniform coating on SWNTs. Functionalization has been applied to achieve considerable improvement in the dispersion of purified single-walled carbon nanotubes. A three-step electroless plating approach was used and the coating mechanism is described in the paper. The samples were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The application of coated SWNTs in Titanium will be discussed in this paper.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with 10 nm average diameter and 5 μm in length were synthesized by electric arc discharge. The morphology and structure of CNTs were characterized by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray powder diffraction. The tribological properties of CNTs as an additive on lithium grease were evaluated with a four ball tester. The results show that the grease with CNTs exhibit good performance in antiwear (AW) and decrease the wear scare diameter (WSD) about 63%, decrease friction reduction about 81.5%, and increase the extreme pressure (EP) properties and load carrying capacity about 52% with only 1% wt. of CNTs added to lithium grease. The action mechanism was estimated through analysis of the worn surface with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The results indicate that a boundary film mainly composed of CNTs, Cr, iron oxide, and other organic compounds was formed on the worn surface during the friction process.

Considered the issues of X-ray dose control during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using imaging tools. The dose of X-ray radiation from the visualization devices absorbed by the biological tissue of a person was determined when monitoring the position of the patient on the therapeutic table of the electron accelerator before the radiation therapy session. The processes of transmission of photons and electrons through the medium were simulated, and the X-ray spectra were measured. The emission spectrum of the Varian G-242 Rotating Anode X-ray Tube was obtained using an XR-100-CdTe spectrometer. The absorbed dose is calculated by the Monte Carlo method. The absorbed dose in the water phantom at tube voltage up to 80 kV was 0,9–1,5 mGy.

The authors report the preparation of the nanocomposite comprising of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) and selenium (Se) nanoparticles and functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (V2O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs). Since Se NPs possesses extraordinary physicochemical properties including larger surface area with higher adsorption capacity, V2O5 NPs were adsorbed onto Se NPs surface through physisorption process (designated as V2O5@Se NPs). The nanocomposite synthesized hydrothermally was evaluated for its antimicrobial activity. The morphology and microstructure of the nanocomposite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) were employed to analyze the spectral properties of nanocomposite. The microbicidal efficacy of nanocomposite was tested against Gram-negative (G-)ZGram-positive (G+) bacteria and fungus. This is the first report on the synthesis of V2O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs nanocomposites by chemical method that showed microbicidal effect on micro-organisms. The thiol (-SH) units facilitates the enrichment of V2O5@Se NPs onto MWCNTs surface. Ultimately, it reflects on the significant antimicrobial activity of V2O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs.
