Three dictyostelid isolates were found in Spain and Argentina that are morphologically different from known species. These isolates have some features similar to Dictyostelium sphaerocephalum (Oudem.) Sacc., Marchal & É.J. Marchal, but differ in size and sorocarp branching pattern. We sequenced the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region to explore phylogenetic relationships among this group of species, including the three new isolates and their closest relatives. In all phylogenetic analyses performed, sequences of all three isolates group together with sequences from “typical” D. sphaerocephalum samples. This result supports previous observations of the morphological plasticity in dictyostelids, especially D. sphaerocephalum, leading us to broaden the classical concept of this species.

The study investigated fungi associated with sea foods, fish (Pellonula leonensis) and crayfish (Parapandalus pritis) from different wetlands (Ibeno, Ikot Abasi, Eket and Itu) in Akwa Ibom State. Samples were collected and cultured on Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) and the isolated fungi were identified using molecular technique. Based on PCR amplification, sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer and phylogenetic analysis, the fungi identified were: Aspergillus niger, A. felis, A. foetidus, A. aculeatus, A. japonicus, A. flavus, A. tamari, A. terreus, Penicilium citrinum, Candida tropicalis and Trametes polyzona. The most commonly isolated fungi from fish for the four locations were A. niger (52.8) in Itu, P. citrinum (51.7) in Ibeno, A. foetidus (53.5) in Ikot Abasi and A. aculeatus (51.6) in Eket. For samples of crayfish, the most commonly isolated fungi were A. niger (25.1) in Itu and A. foetidus (20.1) in Ikot Abasi. Generally, Ibeno recorded the highest frequencies of fungal isolates while Ikot Abasi had the least. Percentage occurrence of fungi isolated from fish samples were significantly higher (p<0.05) when compared with those isolated from crayfish samples. The presence of these fungi showed that sea foods were exposed to an increasing number of virulent infectious diseases in natural populations, and fungal-like diseases can cause some of the most severe die-offs and extinctions ever witnessed in wild species thus jeopardizing food security Keywords: Fungi, Sea food, Wetland, Aspergillus, Fish.

Inocybe griseorubida sp. nov. is described from Kerala State, India. A comprehensive description, photographs, and comparisons with phenetically similar species are provided. The nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), a portion of the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nLSU) and a portion of the nuclear second-largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (rpb2) gene of this species were sequenced and analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis of rpb2 sequences confirmed both the novelty of the species and its placement within the Pseudosperma clade.

Three species of Entoloma with white basidioma in subgenus Alboleptonia from China are reported in this paper. Entoloma crocotillum is described as new to science from high altitudes in southwestern China. It is characterized by the small, white to pinkish pileus covered with matted-appressed fibrils, relatively large basidiospores with 5–6 angles, and the common presence of clamp-connections. Entoloma sulcatum, a new Chinese record, and E. stylophorum are documented based on new collections. Additionally, ITS (internal transcribed spacer region), nLSU (nuclear large subunit), and RPB2 (RNA polymerase II second largest subunit) sequences of E. crocotillum were successfully generated, and the phylogenetic positions of the three species among Alboleptonia species and other entolomatoid groups are preliminarily analyzed based on the combined nLSU and RPB2 dataset. The phylogenetic analysis showed that E. crocotillum is most closely related to E. sericellum and that Alboleptonia is not a monophyletic group.

During a biodiversity survey of Argentinian soil fungi, we recovered a rare Scedosporium-like fungus which was proven to be genetically and morphologically different from known species of Scedosporium (anamorph of Pseudallescheria) and relatives and is proposed here as representing a new genus. This genus is mainly characterized by producing sympodial conidia from denticulate conidiogenous cells. This isolate was morphologically identical to Graphium tectonae and thus the new combination Parascedosporium tectonae gen. nov., comb. nov. is proposed. Sequence analysis of four regions of three genes, i.e. β-tubulin (two loci), calmodulin and the internal transcribed spacer region of the 5.8S rRNA, confirmed our proposal. Both the phylogenetic analysis and morphological studies excluded Pseudallescheria africana and Pseudallescheria fimeti from the genus Pseudallescheria. The former is proposed as a member of the new genus Petriellopsis, and the latter has been accommodated in Lophotrichus. The type strains of Parascedosporium tectonae gen. nov., comb. nov., Petriellopsis africana gen. nov., comb. nov. and Lophotrichus fimeti comb. nov. are respectively CBS 127.84T, CBS 311.72T and CBS 129.78T.
