Background. Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal death in the world. Non-technical skills (e.g. communication) are now recognized as a contributing factor to medical safety. In the field of simulation, screen-based simulations are currently very popular with computer/technological development. This study evaluates a screen-based simulation device, PerinatSims, developed to improve technical and non-technical skills in PPH situation. This experiment hypothesized that exposure and repetition of training with PerinatSims would improve the self-assessment of non-technical skills, and therefore increase the ability to manage PPH. Methods. The primary endpoint was a self-assessment of non-technical skills during simulation session of PPH on a digital simulator. Twenty French midwives performed three of nine 25 minutes sessions of PPH screen-based simulation. Four self-assessment questionnaires were administered at the end of each simulation session: a leadership/team working questionnaire (BAT), a negative feelings/emotional questionnaire (DASS-21), a Flow questionnaire and a mental load questionnaire (NASA-TLX). Results between sessions were compared using a repeated measures ANOVA followed by a Bonferroni post hoc test. Results. The study showed a positive evolution during the three screen-based simulation sessions: an increase of leadership and team working self-assessment, an increase of Flow sense, and a decrease of negative emotions (anxiety and depression in the DASS-21 score). Significant decrease of stress was found only between the second and the third sessions, and significant differences in the NASA-TLX were observed only in two dimensions, Performance and Frustration. Conclusion. A repeated exposure to PPH situations with a screen-based simulation tool improved the midwives’ self-assessment, especially for leadership, team working, emotion management and Flow sense. Furthermore, midwives had a very positive feedback on the device. They highlighted the desire to use PerinatSims more often to be trained to PPH management, for technical as well as non-technical skills.

We implement the numerical method of summing Green function diagrams on the Matsubara frequency axis for the fluctuation exchange (FLEX) approximation. Our method has previously been applied to the attractive Hubbard model for low density. Here we apply our numerical algorithm to the Hubbard model close to half filling (ρ =0.40), and for T/t = 0.03, in order to study the dynamics of one- and two-particle Green functions. For the values of the chosen parameters we see the formation of three branches which we associate with the two-peak structure in the imaginary part of the self-energy. From the imaginary part of the self-energy we conclude that our system is a Fermi liquid (for the temperature investigated here), since Im Σ( k , ω) ≈ w2 around the chemical potential. We have compared our fully self-consistent FLEX solutions with a lower order approximation where the internal Green functions are approximated by free Green functions. These two approches, i.e., the fully self-consistent and the non-self-consistent ones give different results for the parameters considered here. However, they have similar global results for small densities.

Nowadays there are not many investigation results about infant and baby's motor behavior in the aquatic environment. The present study seeks to describe it before the 40 months of age and to examine the relationship between the motor acquisitions and the chronological age, time of practice and program duration. A system of categories and sub-categories of baby's motor behavior was developed for two dimensions: breathing control and underwater orientation. This system was validated with obtained values of 96% of objectivity and 100% of consistency. Then, 101 babies and infants were evaluated between 3 and 40 months of age, some of them in different moments, in a total of 216 observations (N=216). Breathing control and underwater orientation skills were strongly correlated with chronological age, time of practice and program duration. All the correlations were positive with 0.75-0.86% and significant (ρâ‰-0.01), meaning that as age, time of practice or program duration increases, the breathing control and underwater orientation skills showed clear improvement. Chronological ages for developmental steps in aquatic environment were identified. Results are discussed within a maturation-stimulation theoretical framework. The evaluation tool that was proposed and validated is ready for use and can be applied in other research settings.
