According to the method used in ENIQ (European Network of Inspection and Qualification), the performance demonstration of automatic ultrasonic inspection on the narrow-gap welds between the safe-ends (forging) and primary pipe (casting) in one PWR Nuclear Power Plant in China, was successfully finished. The visualization of the laser ultrasonic detection technology — which was introduced for the first time — and ultrasonic simulation technology, were used to study the dynamic propagation of the ultrasonic beam in the narrow-gap welds, in order to provide technical support for performance demonstration and field inspection.

Recently, filling mining is becoming more and more important in the mining industry and has been used widely. In order to better control the process of paste filling mining and acquire the accurate amount of filling material used, and to reduce the waste of paste filling material, we should detect in real time the paste flow in the pipe during the process of filling. This paper introduces in detail the basic principle of ultrasonic detection technology and the hardware composition and working principle of the on-line detection system. The author uses the theory of unascertained error analysis of detecting data and implements ultrasonic detection technology to realize on-line detection of paste filling pipe flow.

With the continuous development of the ultrasonic detection technology, ultrasonic time of flight diffraction (TOFD) method has been widely applied. The paper investigated the TOFD technique in the detection of natural defects. TOFD detection experiment is established in Lab. The finite element analysis simulation of A-scan signal and ultrasonic TOFD technique in the detection of the longitudinal arrangement of pores defects within the weld specimen transmission are studied. The feasibility and correctness of the finite element analysis model are verified by comparing the experimental signals with the simulation signals.

According to the characteristics of a curve on the surface, the correlation between the placement feasibility for fiber tow and the surface shape of a composite component, width of the fiber tows is analyzed. The placement process route under the condition of fiber tow ultimate deformation is calculated. In addition, based on fiber loading orientation in the designed placement layers, the best mechanical route is calculated. Through the given proportionality coefficient of geodesic arc radii under the constrain conditions of the mechanics and fiber tow deformability on the present route point, a simple modeling approach is proposed to obtain the actual model of the route with the goal of satisfying the best mechanical route orientation . Take the placement of a free form surface as an example to verify the approach, with the result of indicating its reasonableness.

Traditionally, guide dogs are used as a travel aid for blind people. But they cannot be popularized because the training cost for guide dogs is quite high. This paper presents an intelligent guide vehicle prototype for blind people. The system is developed by using ARM as a controller and processor, via integration of ultrasonic detection and photoelectric detection technology, aiming at automatically navigation for blind people. This system mainly consists of four modules, which are ultrasonic detection module, photoelectric detection module, voice prompt module and automatic control module. The signal reflected by roadblock on the road can be detected by ultrasonic detection module which can work out distance between roadblock and guide vehicle. The aim of photoelectric detection module is to realize the function of road recognition and tracking. Voice prompt module can provide information of distance of roadblock. Strategies of obstacle avoidance were taken to the blind when the guide vehicle is going to avoid roadblock. If the roadblock is less than 50cm away, the automatic control module will automatically set the guide vehicle to avoid obstacles. Preliminary experimental results show that users can control and navigate with the intelligent guide vehicle.

The plasma polymerization replica method and its apparatus have been devised by Tanaka (1-3). We have published several reports on its application: surface replicas of biological and inorganic specimens, replicas of freeze-fractured tissues and metal-extraction replicas with immunocytochemical markers. The apparatus for plasma polymerization consists of a high voltage power supply, a vacuum chamber containing a hydrocarbon gas (naphthalene, methane, ethylene), and electrodes of an anode disk and a cathode of the specimen base. The surface replication by plasma polymerization in negative glow phase on the cathode was carried out by gassing at 0.05-0.1 Torr and glow discharging at 1.5-3 kV D.C. Ionized hydrocarbon molecules diffused into complex surface configurations and deposited as a three-dimensionally polymerized film of 1050 nm in thickness. The resulting film on the complex surface had uniform thickness and showed no granular texture. Since the film was chemically inert, resistant to heat and mecanically strong, it could be treated with almost any organic or inorganic solvents.
