Phase-matched blue second harmonic generation was observed in a corona-poled Corning 7059 glass film waveguide. The induced quadratic optical nonlinearity was examined by second harmonic generation with a time dependent decay for multi-complex of SiO 2, BaO,B 2 O 3 and/or Al 2 O 3. Glass films with every possible combination of composition were fabricated and examined, The glass composition of SiO 2- BaO-B 2 O 3 and/or SiO 2- BaO-Al 2 O 3 was found to play effective roles in maintaining the induced second order nonlinearity for a longer period of time. This is supposed to be related to distributed traps which come from complex of the glass components.

ABSTRACTWe developed an ab initio formalism based on Time-Dependent Density-Functional Theory for the calculation of the second-order susceptibility Χ(2) (Luppi et al. J. Chem. Phys. 132, 241104(2010)). We apply this formalism to the calculation of second-harmonic generation spectra of hexagonal SiC polytypes, ZnGeP2 (ZGP) and GaP. Starting from the independent-particle approximation, we include manybody effects, such as quasiparticle via the scissors operator, crystal local fields and excitons. We consider two different types of kernels: the ALDA and the “long-range” kernel. We analyze the effects of the different electron-electron descriptions in the spectra, finding good agreement with experiments.

We calculated the frequency dependent macroscopic dielectric function and second-harmonic generation of cubic ZnS, ZnSe and ZnTe within time-dependent density-polarisation functional theory.

AbstractThe evolution of second harmonic generation (SHG) in germanium doped silica planar waveguides is simulated numerically. Based on the asymmetric photoionization model, the total current in the waveguide is taken to be the sum of an asymmetric current and a current due to the resulting dc field. The interplay between these two currents causes the SHG to saturate in time. The saturation of SHG in length is due to diffraction.
