Nanodiamonds (NDs) and carbon-dots (CDs) suspensions exhibit significant NLO response under both ps and ns laser excitation. NDs exhibit important optical limiting action under nanosecond visible (532 nm) and infrared (1064 nm) laser excitation.

A novel nonlinear optical active triazine dye 2-(4-methyl-4-amino-azobenzene )-4-sodium sulfanilate-6-chloro-1,3,5-triazine was synthesized by condensation reaction and characterized by FTIR, 1HNMR, respectively. Their nonlinear optical properties were investigated using 5 ns pulse at 532 nm, which showed excellent nonlinear optical property.

The nonlinear optical properties, absorbance and fluorescence spectra of Erythrosin B (ErB) aqueous solution in different CTAB concentration was studied. Z-scan technique under laser light excitation at 532 nm, was used for study reverse saturable absorption (RSA) of ErB. it was observed that the RSA of solution depend on CTAB concentration. A enhancing of absorbance and quenching of fluorescence is observed with increase of CTAB concentration in solution and the RSA can reduce the fluorescence intensity. It was proposed that the micelle can reduce the dye aggregation is solutions and it can affect on linear and nonlinear optical properties of ErB.

AbstractCompounds WCu2OS3(PPh3)4 (I) and MoCu2OS3(PPh3)3 (II) were synthesized by reactions of (NH4)2MO2S2 (M = W, Mo), Cu2S and PPh3 in solid state for nonlinear optical studies. A wide transparent window (λ = 400 - 1000 nm) was observed for both clusters, which makes them attractive for nonlinear optical (NLO) applications. NLO properties of the clusters were studied with a 7-ns pulsed laser at 532 nm. Cluster I exhibits mainly optical self-focusing (n2 = 8 × 10-18 m2 W-1, as measured with an 1.2 × 10-4 M acetonitrile solution) with negligibly small nonlinear absorption. Cluster II exhibits both optical self-focusing (n2 = 5 × 10-17 m2 W-1, as measured with a 7.4 × 10-5 M acetonitrile solution) and nonlinear absorption (α2 = 2.6 × 10-10 m W-1). The third-order NLO susceptibilities (χ(3)) of the two clusters at the above-mentioned concentrations are 2 × 10-11 esu for I and 1.2 × 10-10 esu for II respectively. These nonlinear optical properties of the clusters were compared with those of cubic cage shaped and nest shaped clusters to reveal a qualitative structure/NLO property correlation.

AbstractIn this study, we present a systematic study of linear and nonlinear optical properties of Para Red with the aim of Z-scan technique and quantum mechanical calculations. The Z-scan experiments were performed using a 532 nm Nd: YAG (SHG) CW laser beam. Para Red exhibited a strong nonlinear refractive index, nonlinear absorption coefficient and third-order nonlinear susceptibility 3.487 × 10−6 cm2/W, 2.341 × 10−1cm/W and 2.157 × 10−4 esu, respectively. Also, quantum chemical analysis was used for the calculation of the dipole moment μ, dipole polarizability α, anisotropy of polarizability Δα and molecular hyperpolarizabilities (β,γ). The results revealed that Para Red has large first and second hyperpolarizabilities. However, from the obtained results, it was found that Para Red can be a promising material for applications in the development of non-linear optical materials.

Reactions of [Et4N]2[WSe4] with two equivalents of [CuX] powder gave trinuclear linear compounds [Et4N]2[(μ-WSe4)(CuX)2] (X = Cl 1, Br 2). Treatment of 1 or 2 with PPh3 in CH2Cl2 resulted in the formation of tetranuclear cubane-like compounds (μ3-X)(μ3-WSe4)(CuPPh3)3 (X = Cl 3, Br 4). The structures of the heterobimetallic selenium compounds 1 and 4・MeCN were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Ordered Au nanoparticle arrays were fabricated on fused quartz substrates using nanosphere lithography. Linear and nonlinear optical properties of triangular Au nanoparticle arrays were investigated. Two LSPR peaks due to the surface plasmon resonance of Au particles were observed. The nonlinear optical properties were measured using the Z-scan technique at a wavelength of 532 nm and pulse duration of 10 ns. The nanoparticle arrays exhibit distinct nonlinear absorption saturation behavior, the absorption coefficient was determined to be –3.5 × 103 (cm/GW).
