Magnetic properties and giant magnetocaloric effect (GMCE) of Mn-based Heusler compounds such as Co-Mn-Si, Ni-Mn-Sn, Ni-Mn-Sb have been investigated. The results show that the structure strongly influences on magnetic properties and GMCE of these alloys. The coexistence of ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) orders is observed. The magnetic phase transitions can be controlled by changing composition and annealing condition of the alloys. GMCEs with large magnitude and wide working temperature range have been obtained on these alloys showing their application potential for magnetic refrigeration technology.

AbstractWe study the dc magnetization of a Bi_1.94Fe_0.06Se_3 single crystal in the temperature range of 1.9 to 400 K in applied magnetic fields up to 70 kOe for two sample orientations in the applied field. We register three magnetic phase transitions and observe considerable anisotropy of the magnetic properties. The coercive force varies with temperature in a nonmonotonic manner. For the sample in a paramagnetic state, we estimate its magnetic moment per iron atom; its Curie–Weiss temperature is found to be negative. Arrot–Belov plots are constructed.

AbstractThe dielectric and magnetic properties of mixed magnetoelectric ( x )Mn_0.4Zn_0.6Fe_2O_4–(1 – x ) · PbZr_0.53Ti_0.47O_3 ( x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.8) composites have been studied in the temperature range near the ferroelectric and magnetic phase transitions. The influence of the composite compositions on the thermodynamic parameters of the initial phases of the composites has been revealed. It is found that the reason for this influence is the mutual doping of the composite phases that takes place during high-temperature sintering of powders of ferrite Mn_0.4Zn_0.6Fe_2O_4 and ferroelectric PbZr_0.53Ti_0.47O_3.
