This study aims to assess the evolution of surface roughness and waviness parameters with plastic strain in Interstitial Free – IF steel sheet. For the achievement of this study, it was considered various roughness and waviness profile parameters such as: arithmetic average roughness (Ra), maximum distance peak-valley (Rt), average waviness (Wa) and waviness of the total height peak-valley (Wt). Tensile test specimens of IF steel at 0º, 45º and 90º to the direction of rolling were fabricated. After preparing the sheet proof specimens, it was performed simple tensile tests and measurements of roughness and waviness of the specimen surface at various strain stages resulting in a large quantity of data. During the tensile test, it has been measured the following plastic strain to indicate the incremental step: (e1) longitudinal strain and (e2) transverse strain. From these data, it was possible to obtain points needed to plot the curves of roughness and waviness parameters versus strain and to determine the material behavior using equations of the equivalent strain. From the curves drawn it was possible to see how the material roughness and waviness behaves during the straining in the uniaxial tensile state, with the possibility to predict the influence of plastic strain on roughness and waviness parameters and the onset of local necking of IF steel sheet. The waviness parameters Wt is the best for characterizing the onset of local necking.

Multiaxial tube expansion tests (MTETs) were performed to measure the multiaxial plastic deformation behavior of a cold rolled interstitial-free (IF) steel sheet for a range of strain from initial yield to fracture. The testing machine is capable of applying arbitrary principal stress or strain paths to tubular specimens using an electrical, closed-loop servo-control system for an axial force and an internal pressure. Tubular specimens with an inner diameter of 44.6 mm were fabricated from a cold rolled IF steel sheet with a thickness of 0.7 mm by roller bending and laser welding. Many linear stress paths in the first quadrant of stress space were applied to the tubular specimens to measure the forming limit strains and forming limit stresses of the as-received sheet sample, in addition to the contours of plastic work and the directions of the plastic strain rates. It was found that the shapes of the measured work contours changed with increasing plastic work. The observed differential hardening behavior was approximated by changing the material parameters and the exponent of the Yld2000-2d yield function (Barlat et al, 2003) as functions of the reference plastic strain. The hydraulic bulge tests were also conducted to measure the forming limit strain and forming limit stress for equibiaxial tension and to determine the equivalent stress-equivalent plastic strain relation for a larger strain range. The forming limit curve and forming limit stress curve were calculated using the Marciniak-Kuczyński-type approach. The calculated results were in fair agreement with the measurement.

As-received hot-rolled 5.6 mm thick IF steel sheet was symmetrically/asymmetrically cold rolled at room temperature down to 1.9 mm. The asymmetric rolling was carried out in monotonic (an idle roll is always on the same side of the sheet) and reversal (the sheet was turned 180º around the rolling direction between passes) modes. Microstructure, texture and mechanical properties were analysed. The observed differences in structure and mechanical properties were modest, and therefore further investigation of the effects of other kinds of asymmetry is suggested.
