The photocatalytic activity was studied under UV light using AC-Cd/TiO2 prepared via precipitation method and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) , high resolution scanning electron micrographs (HR-SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), photoluminescence (PL) and Fourier transform Raman analysis (FT-RAMAN). The enhanced photo catalytic activity of the AC-Cd/TiO2 is demonstrated through photodegradation of methylene blue under UV light radiation at 365 nm. The mechanism of photocatalytic effect of AC-Cd/TiO2 nanocomposite material has been discussed Further its antibacterial activity against two gram positive and two gram negative bacterial strain is studied.

Fracture-filling rose-like clusters of bladed calcite crystals are found in the northern sector of the Cadí thrust sheet (SE Pyrenees). This unusual calcite crystal morphology has been characterized by using optical and electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, δ18O, δ13C, 87Sr/86Sr, clumped isotopes, and major and rare earth elements + yttrium (REEs + Y) analysis. Petrographic observations and powder X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that these bladed crystals are mainly made of massive rhombic crystals with the conventional (104) faces, as well as of possibly younger, less abundant, and smaller laminar crystals displaying (108) and/or ( 1 ¯ 08) rhombic faces. Raman analysis of liquid fluid inclusions indicates the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons and occasionally alkanes. Clumped isotopes thermometry reflects that bladed calcite precipitated from meteoric fluids at ~60–65 °C. The 87Sr/86Sr ratios and major elements and REEs content of calcite indicate that these fluids interacted with Eocene marine carbonates. The presence of younger ‘nailhead’ calcite indicates later migration of shallow fresh groundwater. The results reveal that rose-like calcite clusters precipitated, at least in the studied area, due to a CO2 release by boiling of meteoric waters that mixed with benzene and aromatic hydrocarbons. This mixing decreased the boiling temperature at ~60–65 °C. The results also suggest that the high Sr content in calcite, and probably the presence of proteins within hydrocarbons trapped in fluid inclusions, controlled the precipitation of bladed crystals with (104) rhombohedral faces.

AbstractFor ohmic contact on p GaN, palladium is one of the best candidates showing ohmic characteristics already without annealing. To be realized in devices, it is necessary to know the behavior of the ohmic contacts at accelerated conditions, especially for high temperatures and power. We report on the structural evolution of palladium layers (30 nm) deposited on GaN (0001) by electron beam evaporation without intentional annealing. They were next cut into various pieces which were individually submitted to rapid thermal annealing at 400, 500, 600, 700 and 800°C for 10 sec. We investigate the differences in the microstructure and the location of interfacial phases and their relationships as determined by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, we then suggest the formation mechanism based on the relationship. It is shown that the interface is disrupted at annealing above 600°C and by 800°C only very small patches of Pd are still present, however they area completely imbedded in a matrix of intermetallic phases (gallides) formed by the reaction with GaN.

We report the electrospun poly(L-lactide) (PLA) nanofibers incorporating polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane (POSS)-modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). FT-IR, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Raman analysis confirmed the existence of POSS macromers bonded to the MWNTs as an extra phase. The thermal and microstructure properties of the PLA hybrid nanofibers with POSS-modified MWNTs were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD).

The chemical vapor deposition technique was used to prepare the Ag doped ZnO microrods, which were located on Si substrates at two different positions.  The scanning electron microscopy revealed that the samples have a clear hexagonal shape. X-ray diffraction provided information about the preferential orientation along the c-axis. The Raman analysis revealed that a new Raman mode appears at 492 cm-1 due to Ag doping. As this mode has not been reported early, it could be used as a characteristic mode of Ag doping in Raman spectrum. The red shift of the E2 (high) mode proves the existence of tensile stress in the samples. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.ms.25.3.19130

ZrO2/MWCNT nanocomposites have been prepared by simple refluxing method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman analysis suggests chemical interactions present between zirconia and Multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) in the as prepared nanocomposites. Electromagnetic inteference shielding efficiencies (EMI SE) for the nanocomposites were found to increase with increasing amount of MWCNT loading. Highest EMI SE value of 29.1–30.5 dB was obtained for nanocomposite containing 15 wt% loading of MWCNT in the microwave frequency range of 2–8 GHz. This optimum performance is due to several factors like highest percentage of intermolecular H-bonding, highly defective, interconnected network structure, high conductivity and dielectric permittivities of the nanocomposites.

Micro-Raman analysis was used to study the structure of TiO2 powders produced at low (260 °C) and high (600–900 °C) temperatures by vapor hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP). Spatial inhomogeneity was discovered after the amorphous TiO2 powders produced at low temperature were calcined at 700, 800, and 900 °C for 3 h. The TiO2 powders produced at high temperatures (from 600 to 900 °C) were found to be spatially homogeneous and predominately anatase in structure. Small amounts of rutile and brookite are found for powders produced at 700, 800, and 900 °C after calcination at 600 °C for 3 h. The rutile and brookite impurities are believed to be concentrated on the surface of anatase based on a comparison of results of Raman and x-ray diffraction studies.
