In a recently published paper called Nexus: A quantum theory of space-time, gravity and the quantum vacuum by the above author, a plausible self-consistent quantum theory of space-time, gravity and the quantum vacuum is provided. In this current paper the author focuses primarily on the graviton as described in Nexus as a solution to the enigmatic phenomena of Dark Energy and Dark Matter as well as includes corrections to the first paper.

The Difference

In connection with the problem of dark matter, we discuss recent results on constraining the parameters of axion-to-nucleon interaction following from the experiment on measuring the difference of Casimir forces. It is shown that this experiment not only leads to competitive constraints, but provides stronger support to other constraints obtained in Casimir physics so far. The description of dark energy by means of cosmological constant originated from the quantum vacuum is considered in terms of the renormalization procedures in quantum field theory. It is argued that only the renormalized value of cosmological constant directly connected with the observed density of dark energy is of physical significance, so that some statements in the literature concerning the vacuum catastrophe may be considered as an exaggeration.

We study the behavior of the vacuum condensates characterizing many physical phenomena. We show that condensates due to thermal states, to fields in curved space, and to neutrino mixing, may represent new components of the dark matter, whereas the condensate due to axion-photon mixing can contribute to the dark energy. Moreover, by considering a supersymmetric framework, we show that the nonzero energy of vacuum condensates may induce a spontaneous supersymmetry breaking.

If fermions interact with a scalar field, and there are many fermions present the scalar field may develop an expectation value and generate an effective mass for the fermions. This can lead to the formation of fermion clusters, which could be relevant for neutrino astrophysics and for dark matter astrophysics. Because this system may exhibit negative pressure, it also leads to a model of dark energy.

ABSTRACT In a recent paper, quantum vacuum was considered as a source of gravity, and the simplest, phenomenon, the gravitational polarization of the quantum vacuum by an immersed point-like body, was studied. In this paper, we have derived the effective gravitational charge density of the quantum vacuum, caused by two immersed point-like bodies. Among others, the obtained result proves that quantum vacuum can have regions with a negative effective gravitational charge density. Hence, quantum vacuum, the ‘ocean’ in which all matter of the Universe is immersed, acts as a complex fluid with a very variable gravitational charge density that might include both positive and negative densities; a crucial prediction that can be tested within the Solar system. In the general case of ${N \ge {\rm{3}}}$ point-like bodies, immersed in the quantum vacuum, the analytical solutions are not possible, and the use of numerical methods is inevitable. The key point is that an appropriate numerical method, for the calculation of the effective gravitational charge density of the quantum vacuum induced by N immersed bodies, might be crucial in description of galaxies, without the involvement of dark matter or a modification of gravity. The development of such a valuable numerical method, is not possible, without a previous (and in this study achieved) understanding of the impact of a two-body system.
