ABSTRACTNd0.5Ca0.5MnO3 (NCMO) and Nd0.5Sr0.5MnO3 (NSMO) nanoparticles have been synthesized using microemulsion synthesis method, with hexamethylene alkyl, a mixture of OP and 1-hexanol, NaOH as oil phase, surfactant, and precipitating agent, respectively. The phase formation of NCMO and NSMO nanoparticles was examined. The final NCMO and NSMO nanoparticles have average particle size of 24 and 50 nm, respectively, and present high-quality crystallinity. Measurements of the magnetic properties suggest that the charge-order state favored for bulk NCMO phase collapses in NCMO nanoparticles. The spin freezing behavior for both NCMO and NSMO nanoparticles was identified.

AbstractDy$$_{2}$$ 2 Zr$$_{2}$$ 2 O$$_{7}$$ 7 a disordered pyrochlore system, exhibits the spin freezing behavior under the application of the magnetic field. We have performed detailed magnetic studies of Dy$$_{2-\textit{x}}$$ 2 - x La$$_\textit{x}$$ x Zr$$_{2}$$ 2 O$$_{7}$$ 7 to understand the evolution of the magnetic spin freezing in the system. Our studies suggest the stabilization of the pyrochlore phase with the substitution of non-magnetic La along with the biphasic mixture of fluorite and pyrochlore phases for the intermediate compositions. We observed that the spin freezing (T$$_{f}$$ f $$\sim$$ ∼ 17 K) at higher La compositions (1.5 $$\le$$ ≤ $$\textit{x}$$ x $$\le$$ ≤ 1.99) is similar to the field-induced spin freezing for low La compositions (0 $$\le$$ ≤ $$\textit{x}$$ x $$\le$$ ≤ 0.5) and the well-known spin ice systems Dy$$_{2}$$ 2 Ti$$_{2}$$ 2 O$$_{7}$$ 7 and Ho$$_{2}$$ 2 Ti$$_{2}$$ 2 O$$_{7}$$ 7 . The low-temperature magnetic state for higher La compositions (1.5 $$\le$$ ≤ $$\textit{x}$$ x $$\le$$ ≤ 1.99) culminates into a spin-glass like state below 6 K. Cole–Cole plot and Casimir-du Pr$$\acute{e}$$ e ´ fit shows the narrow distribution of spin relaxation time in these compounds.

We report the structure and physical properties of two quasi-two-dimensional triangular antiferromagnetic materials, Co0.66Al2Se3.53 and Ni0.61Al2Se3.55, which show highly magnetically frustrated characters. Powder X-ray diffractions demonstrate that Co0.66Al2Se3.53 and Ni0.61Al2Se3.55 possess identical space group of P-3m1 with lattice parameters a = 3.8089(1) Å, c = 12.676(1) Å and a = 3.7880(1) Å, c = 12.650(1) Å, respectively. Analyzing the susceptibility data of Co0.66Al2Se3.53 reveal a Curie Weiss temperature of −216 K, and a spin-freezing transition temperature of 4.5 K, giving a frustration index f = −θcw/Tf ≈ 48. Ni0.61Al2Se3.55 possesses an effective moment of 2.38 µB, a Curie–Weiss temperature of −62 K with no sign of spin-freezing transition down to 2 K. The AC susceptibility data of Co0.66Al2Se3.53 suggest a spin glass-like transition, but no intersite mixing between Co2+ and Al3+ was observed from the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements.
