The hyperfine structure separations of about 25 terms of T1 II have been measured by means of two quartz and two glass Lummer plates used in conjunction with a Hilger E1 spectrograph. The light source was a hollow cathode discharge in helium. Large isotope displacements have been found in some of the terms of the 5d96s26p configuration, also in the 6p2 3P2 and 6p2 1D2 terms. The results have been used to calculate g(I) and to examine the validity of the application of the summation rules to the separation factors for the 6snd and 6snf configurations. The spacing of the system of levels arising from the 6s6f configuration has been examined.

The hyperfine structure of nine lines of Bi II and one line of Bi III has been measured by means of a quartz Lummer plate and a glass Lummer plate used in conjunction with a Hilger E 1 spectrograph. The light source was a water-cooled hollow cathode discharge in helium. Of the lines investigated the hyperfine structure of some had already been resolved either totally or in part by Fisher and Goudsmit using a 21 ft. grating, but for the lines λ6808, 6600, 4272 and 4259 the hyperfine structure has been obtained for the first time. The separation factors for the terms 6p1/2 5f31/2 144 and [Formula: see text] have been found. The interaction constants of the 5f21/2, 5f31/2, and 6d21/2 electrons have been calculated.
