A closed-form semiclassical approach describing in a single picture both the evaporation component and the fast nonequilibrium component of the sequential fission of projectile-like (PL) fragments in a peripheral heavy-ion collision is derived and then applied to the dynamical fission observed in the 124 Sn +64 Ni peripheral collision at 35A MeV. Information on opposite polarization effects of the fissioning PL fragments and on "dynamical fission lifetimes" are obtained.

Initial large global angular momentum in non-central relativistic heavy-ion collisions can produce strong vorticity, and through the spin-orbit couping, causes the spin of particles to align with the system’s global angular momentum. We present the azimuthal angle dependent (relative to the first-order plane) global polarization for Λ hyperons in midcentral Au+Au collisions at $ \sqrt {S_{NN} } $ = 200 GeV. We also present the polarization of Λ hyperons along the beam direction as a function of Λ hyperons’ emission angle relative to the second-order event plane at $ \sqrt {S_{NN} } $ = 200 GeV. This longitudinal polarization is found to increase in more peripheral collision. The implications of the results are discussed.

A quantal many-body formalism is presented that investigates pion production through the coherent formation of a nucleonic isobar in the projectile and its subsequent decay to various pion charge states along with concomitant excitation of the target to a coherent spin–isospin giant resonance via a peripheral collision of relativistic heavy ions. Total cross sections as a function of the incident energy per nucleon and Lorentz-invariant differential cross sections as a function of pion energy and angle are calculated. It is shown that the pion angular distributions, in coincidence with the target giant resonance excitations, might provide a well-defined signature for these coherent processes.

This paper focuses on the emission characteristics of single-, double- and multi-charged projectile fragments in the interaction of [Formula: see text]Kr with nuclear emulsion in peripheral collision at relativistic energy. We have also studied the variation of the average multiplicity of multi-charged projectile fragments with respect to the mass of the projectile beam, which reveals that the average multiplicity of multiple charge fragments increases with an increase in the mass of projectile beam. The results are consistent with other experimental observations.

On the basis of the analysis of high-energy jets performed in Cracow's Laboratory of High Energy Physics (Holynski et al. 1966) this paper proposes a new model of high-energy nucleon–nucleus interactions. The double maximum angular distribution of the high-energy jets has been explained as the result of the peripheral collision of the incident nucleon and one of the nucleons of the target nucleus and as the consequent central interaction of the now-produced "fast" fireball with another nucleon of the nucleus. The number of generated particles has been estimated from the usual thermodynamic equations. The conditions necessary for the secondary interaction (in the nucleus) of the π mesons produced in the decay of the "slow" fireball have been found. In the light of a comparison of our estimated results with experimental data a possible model of the fireball is discussed.
