AbstractThe high temperature and pressure effects on the elastic properties of the AgRE (RE=Sc, Tm, Er, Dy, Tb) intermetallic compounds with B2 structure have been performed from first principle calculations. For the temperature range 0-1000 K, the second order elastic constants for all the AgRE intermetallic compounds follow a normal behavior: they decrease with increasing temperature. The pressure dependence of the second order elastic constants has been investigated on the basis of the third order elastic constants. Temperature and pressure dependent elastic anisotropic parameters A have been calculated based on the temperature and pressure dependent elastic constants.

The measuring of the constants of single-crystals requires the availability of crystals of relatively big size. In this paper the elastic constants of the single crystals of magnesium alloy with zinc, zirconium, and rare earth metals (REM) were determined by means of the experimental anisotropy of Young’s modulus and integral characteristics of texture (ICT), which were found from pole figures. Using these constants the anisotropy of Young’s modulus of alloy sheet ZE10 was calculated. Deviation of calculated values from experimental values did not exceed 2%.

We have incorporated the translational rotational (TR) coupling effects in the framework of three body force shell model (TSM) to develop an extended TSM (ETSM). This ETSM has been applied to reveal the second order elastic constants (C11, C12and C44) in the dilute regimes 0≤ x ≤ 0.50 as a function of temperature for 10K≤T≤300K. The anomalous elastic behaviour in C44below 100 K has been depicted well by ETSM results in the orientationally disordered (NH4I)x(KI)1-xmixed crystals. In order to present a visual comparison of the TR-coupling effect on second order elastic constants, we have evaluated the SOECs with and without TR coupling term in ETSM. Besides third order elastic constants have also been studied and discussed for concentration range 0≤x≤0.50 as a function of temperature for 10K≤T≤300K.
