We discuss light-cone gauge description of type IIB Green-Schwarz superstring in AdS5× S5 with a hope to make progress towards understanding spectrum of this theory. As in flat space, fixing light-cone gauge consists of two steps: (i) fixing kappa symmetry in such a way that the fermionic part of the action does not depend on x-; (ii) fixing 2-d reparametrizations by x+=τ and a condition on 2-d metric. In curved AdS space the latter cannot be the standard conformal gauge and breaks manifest 2-d Lorentz invariance. It is natural, therefore, to work in phase-space framework, imposing the GGRT light-cone gauge conditions x+=τ, P+= const. We obtain the resulting light-cone superstring Hamiltonian.

We present the canonical set of superspace constraints for self-dual supergravity, a “self-dual” tensor multiplet and a self-dual Yang-Mills multiplet with N=1 supersymmetry in the space-time with signature (+,+, −, −). For this set of constraints, the consistency of the self-duality conditions on these multiplets with supersymmetry is manifest. The energy-momentum tensors of all the self-dual “matter” multiplets vanish, to be consistent with the self-duality of the Riemann tensor. In particular, the special significance of the “self-dual” tensor multiplet is noted. This result fills the gap left over in our previous series of papers, with respect to the consistent couplings among the self-dual matter multiplets. We also couple these nontrivial backgrounds to a Green-Schwarz superstring σ model, under the requirement of invariance under fermionic (kappa) symmetry. The finiteness of the self-dual supergravity is discussed, based on its “off-shell” structure. A set of exact solutions for the “self-dual” tensor and self-dual Yang-Mills multiplets for the gauge group SL(2) on a self-dual gravitational instanton background is given, and its consistency with the Green-Schwarz string σ model is demonstrated.

Abstract We generalize the geometrical formulation of Wilson loops recently introduced in [1] to the description of Wilson Surfaces. For N = (2, 0) theory in six dimensions, we provide an explicit derivation of BPS Wilson Surfaces with non-trivial coupling to scalars, together with their manifestly supersymmetric version. We derive explicit conditions which allow to classify these operators in terms of the number of preserved supercharges. We also discuss kappa-symmetry and prove that BPS conditions in six dimensions arise from kappa-symmetry invariance in eleven dimensions. Finally, we discuss super-Wilson Surfaces — and higher dimensional operators — as objects charged under global p-form (super)symmetries generated by tensorial supercurrents. To this end, the construction of conserved supercurrents in supermanifolds and of the corresponding conserved charges is developed in details.

We construct D-brane embeddings in [Formula: see text] by studying the consistency conditions following from the pull back of target space equations of motion. We explicitly discuss the supersymmetry preserved by these embeddings by analyzing the compatibility of kappa symmetry projections with the target space Killing spinors in each case. The embeddings correspond to AdS/dCFT dualities involving ABJM theories with a defect. We also comment on the defect CFT.

We define an iterative procedure to obtain a non-abelian generalization of the Born-Infeld action. This construction is made possible by the use of the severe restrictions imposed by kappa-symmetry. We have calculated all bosonic terms in the action up to terms quartic in the Yang-Mills field strength and all fermion bilinear terms up to terms cubic in the field strength. Already at this order the fermionic terms do not satisfy the symmetric trace-prescription.
