Experimental studies of the magnetic susceptibility of NiCl2, CrCl3, CoCl2, FeSO4, CoSO4, CoSO4∙7H2O, Cr2O3, MnBr2, MnCO3, MnSO4, MnSO4∙H2O, and MnO2 measured with fields up to 500,000 oersteds are presented. The first eight substances show constant susceptibilities in the experimental region, whereas the last four show increases of varying size. The increases can be correlated to a certain extent with low field properties, and the hypothesis is put forward that they are due to a change in stability of the paramagnetic substances involving an alteration of the exchange coupling.
