Four imidazole type chromophores bearing diamino groups were designed and synthesized with a facile method. All the chromophores possess efficient second-order nonlinearities based on MOPAC/AM1 calculation, high thermal stability and good transparency for the application in NLO materials. Chromophore 1d, an X-type dual charge transfer system, shows well-balanced nonlinearity/transparency properties.
