In this paper, authors studied a goal programming approach for solving multi-objective fractional transportation problem by representing the parameters (γ, δ) in terms of interval valued fuzzy numbers. Fuzzy goal programming problem with multiple objectives is difficult for the decision makers to determine the goal valued of each objective precisely. The proposed model presents a special type of non-linear (hyperbolic) membership functions to solve multi-objective fractional transportation problem with fuzzy parameters. To illustrate the proposed method numerical examples are solved.

The authors focused goal programming technique for solving type-2 duality fuzzy fractional transportation problem by using interval-valued triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. The proposed method solves three types of models in which variables are taken as type-2 fuzzy variables which have spring up to the fuzzy fractional transportation problem. In these models, duality is applied and a particular type of non-linear membership functions are used to resolve duality fractional transportation problem including fuzzy parameters. A numerical example for examining the performance of the proposed model is envisaged here.

This paper explores the study of fuzzy transportation problem (FTP) using multi-choice goal-programming approach. Generally, the decision variable in transportation problem (TP) is considered as real variable, but here the decision variable in each node is chosen from a set of multi-choice fuzzy numbers. Here, we formulate a mathematical model of FTP considering fuzzy goal to the objective function. Thereafter, the solution procedure of the proposed model is developed through multi-choice goal programming approach. The proposed approach is not only improved the applicability of goal programming in real world situations but also provided useful insight about the solution of a new class of TP. A real-life numerical experiment is incorporated to analyze the feasibility and usefulness of this paper. The conclusions about our proposed work including future studies are discussed last.

AbstractDuring past few decades, fuzzy decision is an important attention in the areas of science, engineering, economic system, business, etc. To solve day-to-day problem, researchers use fuzzy data in transportation problem for presenting the uncontrollable factors; and most of multi-objective transportation problems are solved using goal programming. However, when the problem contains interval-valued data, then the obtained solution was provided by goal programming may not satisfy by all decision-makers. In such condition, we consider a fixed-charge solid transportation problem in multi-objective environment where all the data are intuitionistic fuzzy numbers with membership and non-membership function. The intuitionistic fuzzy transportation problem transforms into interval-valued problem using $$(\alpha ,\beta )$$ ( α , β ) -cut, and thereafter, it reduces into a deterministic problem using accuracy function. Also the optimum value of alternative corresponds to the optimum value of accuracy function. A numerical example is included to illustrate the usefulness of our proposed model. Finally, conclusions and future works with the study are described.

Execution of any project with optimum duration, cost, quality and risk is very significant for project administrators in recent very competitive commercial situation. Sometimes it is not possible to have detailed earlier statistics about project criteria. In such situations, estimation of different Decision makers are considered in linguistic variables and altered into triangular fuzzy numbers as fuzzy numbers have ability to deal with vagueness. In this paper, we frame a new multi-mode multi objective critical path problem and suggest a possibilistic methodology to find critical path for a project where three decision makers’ views are considered as three modes of execution in terms of linguistic variables. We have formulated model of multiple mode in project network problem and find its solution with fuzzy programming approach with exponential membership and linear membership function. The proposed approach is useful to solve multi-mode project management problem which calculates optimal critical path according to four criteria- time, cost, risk and quality with three activities modes of execution in fuzzy environment.

This paper analyzes the study of Multiobjective Transportation Problem (MOTP) under the consideration of fuzzy decision variable. Usually, the decision variable in a Transportation Problem is taken as real variable. But, in this paper, the decision variable in each node is selected from a set of multi-choice fuzzy numbers. Inclusion of multiple objectives into transportation problem with fuzzy decision variable makes it a Multiobjective Fuzzy Transportation Problem (MOFTP). In this paper, a new formulation of mathematical model of MOFTP with fuzzy goal of each objective function is enlisted. Thereafter the solution technique of the formulated model is described through multi-choice goal programming approach. Finally, a numerical example is presented to show the feasibility and usefulness of this article.

Purpose Due to the ever increasing concern toward sustainability, suppliers nowadays are evaluated on the basis of environmental performances. The data on supplier’s performance are not always available in quantitative form and evaluating supplier on the basis of qualitative data is a challenging task. The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for the selection of suppliers by evaluating them on the basis of both quantitative and qualitative data. Design/methodology/approach Literature on sustainability, green supply chain and lean practices related to supplier selection is critically reviewed. Based on this, a two phase fuzzy goal programming approach integrating hyperbolic membership function is proposed to solve the complex supplier selection problem. Findings Results obtained through the proposed approach are compared to the traditional models (Jadidi et al., 2014; Ozkok and Tiryaki, 2011; Zimmermann, 1978) of supplier selection and were found to be optimal as it achieves higher aspiration level. Practical implications The proposed model is adaptive to solve real world problems of supplier selection as all criteria do not possess the same weights, so the managers can change the criteria and their weights according to their requirement. Originality/value This paper provides the decision makers a robust framework to evaluate and select sustainable supplier based on both quantitative and qualitative data. The results obtained through the proposed model achieve greater satisfaction level as compared to those achieved by traditional methods.
