Amorphous materials are of current interest due to their desirable mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties. Furthermore, crystallizing amorphous alloys provides an avenue for discerning sequential and competitive phases thus allowing access to otherwise inaccessible crystalline structures. Previous studies have shown the benefits of using AEM to determine crystal structures and compositions of partially crystallized alloys. The present paper will discuss the AEM characterization of crystallized Cu-Ti and Ni-Ti amorphous films.Cu60Ti40: The amorphous alloy Cu60Ti40, when continuously heated, forms a simple intermediate, macrocrystalline phase which then transforms to the ordered, equilibrium Cu3Ti2 phase. However, contrary to what one would expect from kinetic considerations, isothermal annealing below the isochronal crystallization temperature results in direct nucleation and growth of Cu3Ti2 from the amorphous matrix.

In reaction sintered SiC (∽ 5um average grain size), about 15% of the grains were found to have long-period structures, which were identifiable by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In order to investigate the stability of the long-period polytypes at high temperature, crystal structures as well as microstructural changes in the long-period polytypes were analyzed as a function of time in isothermal annealing. Each polytype was analyzed by two methods: (1) Electron diffraction, and (2) Electron micrograph analysis. Fig. 1 shows microdensitometer traces of ED patterns (continuous curves) and calculated intensities (vertical lines) along 10.l row for 6H and 84R (Ramsdell notation). Intensity distributions were calculated based on the Zhdanov notation of (33) for 6H and [ (33)3 (32)2 ]3 for 84R. Because of the dynamical effect in electron diffraction, the observed intensities do not exactly coincide with those intensities obtained by structure factor calculations. Fig. 2 shows the high resolution TEM micrographs, where the striped patterns correspond to direct resolution of the structural lattice periodicities of 6H and 84R structures and the spacings shown in the figures are as expected for those structures.

The synthesis of alloys of the system was carried out stepwise in rotary furnaces. The synthesis mode was selected based on the physicochemical properties of the elementary components. For homogenization, the alloys were subjected to isothermal annealing at 750 and 1275 K, depending on the Tm2Te3 concentration, for 250 h after homogenization of the alloys, they were subjected to physicochemical analysis. The results of differential thermal analysis showed that reversible thermal effects are observed in the alloys of the system. In alloys in a 1: 1 ratio, a new intermediate phase is formed with a composition corresponding to the TmAsTe3 compound. The homogeneity area is observed in the concentration range 52.5-47.5. It was found that in the concentration range 98.5-52.5 Tm2Te3 there are two phases - a mixture of β and of the solid solution, and in the concentration range of 47.51 mol% Tm2Te3 phases and α are in equilibrium. ) 66 The eutectic has coordinates of 11.5 mol Tm2Te3 at a temperature of 575 K.

This paper presents the results of numerical analysis of the primary magnetization curves, which were obtained under the assumptions of the theory of approach to ferromagnetic saturation described in by H. Kronmller. Test samples of the Fe78Si11B11 alloy were tape-shaped materials, which were subjected to isothermal annealing, not causing their crystallization. The investigated ribbons (tapes) were characterized by a very high saturation magnetization value of approximately 2T, which the thermal treatment has increased by about 10%. It was found that reason for the change of saturation magnetization of the investigated samples was the local rearrangement of atoms due to diffusion processes leading to the release of free volumes to the surface and combining of them into larger unstable defects called pseudodislocational dipoles.

The aim of this study was to analyze the crystallization of the Mg72Zn24Ca4 metallic glass alloy. The crystallization process of metallic glass Mg72Zn24Ca4 was investigated by means of the differential scanning calorimetry. The glass-forming ability and crystallization are both strongly dependent on the heating rate. The crystallization kinetics, during the isothermal annealing, were modelled by the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami equation. Avrami exponents were from 2.7 to 3.51, which indicates diffusion-controlled grain growth. Local exponents of the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami equation were also calculated. In addition, the Mg phase—being the isothermal crystallization product—was found, and the diagram of the time–temperature phase transformation was developed. This diagram enables the reading of the start and end times of the crystallization process, occurring in amorphous ribbons of the Mg72Zn24Ca4 alloy on the isothermal annealing temperature. The research showed high stability of the amorphous structure of Mg72Zn24Ca4 alloy at human body temperature.

AbstractGlass-forming ability, thermal stability and nucleation behavior of a Pd40Cu30Ni10P20 alloy prepared using a high purity polycrystalline phosphorus are investigated. The critical cooling rate for glass formation for the high purity alloy is the same as that for the previous result, but the improvement of undercooling reaches about 80 K as compared with the fluxed ordinary alloy. In comparison with the non-fluxed alloy, the solidified structure of the present highly purified alloy is significantly different. The non-fluxed sample shows the characteristic “island-like” structure consisted of acicular fcc-Pd2Ni2P solid solution and Cu3Pd intermetallic compound. These acicular phases appear to be caused by the growth of quenched-in nuclei. In the isothermal experiment, nucleus density exhibits time dependence even at 683 K near the nose temperature. It is assumed that the crystallization behavior for the highly purified alloy is closer to homogeneous nucleation from quenched-in nuclei dominant behavior. In order to investigate the nucleation behavior, in-situ TEM observation was carried out. Spherical Pd15P2 particle with a diameter about 15 nm is observed, and this spherical region repeats generation and annihilation during isothermal annealing. The reason for the high glass-forming ability is discussed on the basis of the obtained results.
