The article is devoted to the description of the experimental research method when developing a mathematical model for calculating the cutting speed based on information from the cutting zone obtained during the test run in the process of turning using steel coated tools as an example. This paper also presents the results of an experimental study which prove the effectiveness of applying the obtained mathematical dependence.

Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) have much interest in engineering applications. However, the mechanical properties of MREs are still under ongoing researches. This paper presents the results from tensile test, hardness and rebound test that were carried out in order to understand the mechanical properties of MRE with the influence of carbon black content. The addition of carbon black was varied with the amount of 20 pphr, 40 pphr and 60 pphr of carbon black. The development of the MRE composites was manufactured by following the conventional rubber compounding process. The optimum cure of each MRE composite was determined by using a Rheometer 100. The mechanical properties through tensile test were obtained by using an Instron Tensile Machine, meanwhile hardness and resilience were carried out by using Wallace Dead Load Hardness and Dunlop Tripsometer, respectively. The results of tensile strength were not consistent with the addition of carbon black. In meantime, hardness value increases as the carbon black increases. The decreasing pattern of MRE resilience could be observed when the carbon black content increases.

This article using the method of orthogonal test analysis the law of honeycomb ring part in aero-engineer surface discharge mark diameter by EDG. In the impulse voltage under certain conditions,by changing the peak current and pulse width in the interelectrode study both of the impact of the largest diameter of GH3536 surface discharge mark, and build a mathematical model of the regression equation, derive relatively accurate empirical formula. Provide a good reference and guidance for the actual production of the EDG.

The lotus plumule has high medicinal value and is an important part of the lotus seed. Usually, the lotus seed must be split symmetrically into two halves through a splitting process to obtain an intact lotus plumule. However, this process is difficult to mechanize and automate, as different lotus seeds are of different sizes. In this study, a novel automatic self-adaptive splitting technology (SAST) is proposed for lotus seeds, based on a specially designed combined linkage mechanism and a roller pair centering mechanism. The technology can automatically adjust the position of the splitting point taper punch according to the size of the lotus seed and ensure that the tip of the punch is on the axis of the lotus seed. First, the centering deviation of the centering mechanism was analyzed. A mathematical model for the SAST was developed, and the key parameters were optimized using the firefly algorithm. An automatic splitting machine and a test bench were designed for centering deviation measurements, and both centering and splitting experiments were conducted. The generated maximum centering deviation of the SAST was <0.176 mm; the highest accurate splitting rates of 95% and 93.05% were achieved for unclassified and graded lotus seeds, respectively.

AbstractA study has been undertaken to investigate the mechanism of cambering and valley bulging. Previously proposed primary mechanisms are critically reviewed and discussed. The primary mechanism proposed here is that of frost heave and creep of valley slopes, enhanced by slope erosion and cap rock load during a period of periglaciation, partly at the onset of the cold period but predominantly whilst the ground was in frozen and thawing states. The mechanism is supported by experimental study, a mathematical model and field evidence.

The characteristics and working principles of the impinging by submerged water jet are analyzed, and the relevant mathematical model is optimized based on Rajaratnam’s theoretical and experimental study. A new mathematical model is constructed by adding an important parameter called impinging angle. A new experiment is designed according to the working conditions of various impinging distances and angles. In combination with the experiment data and with the use of the curve fitting method, the functional relationship between the impinging distance and angle as well as the coefficient C4 is obtained. The experiment results show that the scour depth decreases as impinging distance increases, followed by a trend from decline to rise before falling again; those two turning points occur within the range of 20d–25d. The scour depth constantly increases with rising impinging angle, and the maximum and minimum increasing ranges can reach 180% and 50%, respectively, with the impinging angle increasing from 40° to 90°.
