We propose enhanced spatial multiplexing codes (E-SMCs) to enable various encoding rates. The symbol error rate (SER) performance of the E-SMC is investigated when zero-forcing (ZF) and maximal-ratio combining (MRC) techniques are used at a receiver. The proposed E-SMC allows a transmitted symbol to be repeated over time to achieve further diversity gain at the cost of the encoding rate. With the spatial correlation between transmit antennas, SER equations forM-ary QAM and PSK constellations are derived by using a moment generating function (MGF) approximation of a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), based on the assumption of independent zero-forced SNRs. Analytic and simulated results are compared for time-varying and spatially correlated Rayleigh fading channels that are modelled as first-order Markovian channels. Furthermore, we can find an optimal block length for the E-SMC that meets a required SER.

Wireless communication and power line communication are extensively applied in various fields, such as household Internet of things. For cooperative communication of amplify–forward relay using wireless access and power line transmission, the hybrid model of universal Nakagami wireless fading and lognormal power line fading was used in this study. A comparative analysis of similarities between Gamma and lognormal distributions and lognormal distribution characteristics of relay link signal-to-noise ratio was also carried out. Given the deficiencies of lognormal variable add approximation method, lognormal distribution parameters combined computing method based on moment generation function was proposed. Theoretical formulas of outage probability and bit error rate after amplify–forward relay and maximal-ratio combining was derived on the basis of moment generation function of the total output signal-to-noise ratio of the system. Effectiveness and reliability of the algorithm and theoretical formula were verified through simulation, and influence rules of hybrid channel fading and power distribution on the system performance were analyzed.

In this paper, we propose a novel derivation approach to obtain the exact closed form expression of ergodic capacity for cognitive underlay amplify-and-forward (AF) relay networks over Rayleigh fading channels. Simulation results are performed to verify the analysis results. Numerical results are provided to compare the system performance of cognitive underlay amplify-and-forward relay networks under both cases of AF and decode-and-forward (DF) confirming that the system with DF provides better performance as compared with that with AF.
