In this study, starting from the elastic optical network, the layered and function isolated service-oriented architecture (SOA) is introduced, so as to propose an elastic optical network SOA for cloud computing, and further study the resource mapping of optical network. Linear mapping model, random routing mapping algorithm, load balancing mapping algorithm and link separation mapping algorithm are introduced respectively, and the resource utilization effect of different mapping algorithms for the proposed optical network is compared. During the experiment, firstly, the elastic optical network is tested. It is found that the node utilization and spectrum utilization of the underlying optical fiber level network are significantly improved. Within the average service time of 0.312 s∼0.416 s, the corresponding node utilization and spectrum utilization are 90% and 80% respectively. In the resource mapping experiment, load balancing algorithm and link separation algorithm can effectively improve the mapping success rate of services. Among them, the link separation mapping algorithm can improve the spectrum resource utilization of optical network by 15.6%. The elastic optical network SOA proposed in this study is helpful to improve the use of network resources.

The optical cross add and drop multiplexing (OXADM) node described in this paper increases the capacity, flexibility and reliability of the trunk-line optical network used for data communication. It features two different bandwidths which operate in working and protection line in a ring configuration. The OXADM has the same features of the conventional OADM node but with more efficiency and reliability. The OXADM prototype system focuses on providing survivability through restoration against failures, such as cable/fiber cut in optical layer with ring topology. Two types of restoration scheme have been proposed to ensure data flow continuously by means of linear/ multiplex protection and ring protection. Comparison between OXADM and OADM restoration schemes is also described. The BER characteristics were measured at 2.5 Gbps (OC-48) and small degradation was observed, as confirmed by a comparison of these simulation results with those obtained from systems without restoration element. Restoration schemes in OXADM node are more reliable and efficient compare to conventional device due to internally routing mechanisms and no ‘drop and re-add function’ is needed to route the signal to alternative path or processed the signals in both electronic and optical domain as practice in conventional nodes today.

In this paper, we use the optical dynamic grooming concept to design load balancer. This paper proposes a new solution to achieve optimal load balancing for a streaming server. Dynamic traffic grooming can be utilized in combination with multipath routing to serve the bandwidth intensive applications when resource is not sufficient in the optical network. At the same time, most of the connections require bandwidth smaller than the capacity available in a wavelength, leading to low resource utilization of established light-paths. Leveraging multipath routing and dynamic grooming can efficiently utilize the residual capacity of the under-used wavelengths [.We inherit the concept of dynamic traffic grooming in optical network. We were able to develop a Windows XP load balancer. We designed some experiments to evaluate the performance of our system to determine if our system was capable of achieving the load balance. The solution will allow enterprises and service providers to reach load balancing purposes without adding additional hardware by utilizing an idle, low cost switch.
