The present study aims to investigate and compare the diagnostic and prognostic value of cavernosography with 320-row dynamic volume computed tomography (DVCT) versus conventional cavernosography in men with erectile dysfunction (ED) caused by venous leakage. A total of 174 patients diagnosed with ED were enrolled and received cavernosography with 320-row DVCT (DVCT group) and conventional cavernosography scans (control group) respectively. The diagnosis, complications, and prognosis of patients were evaluated. The DVCT group provided high-resolution images with less processing and testing time, as well as lowered radiological agent and contrast agent compared with the control group. In the DVCT group, 89 patients who were diagnosed with venous ED had six various venous leakage, namely superficial venous leakage, profundus venous leakage, the mixed type, cavernosal venous leakage, crural venous leakage, and also venous leakage between the penis and urethra cavernosum (9, 21, 32, 6, 18, and 3 cases respectively). Similarly, 74 patients out of the 81 who suffered from venous ED were classified to have superficial venous leakage (11), profundus venous leakage (14), the mixed type venous leakage (26), and middle venous leakage (23). Six out of 25 patients in the DVCT group, had improvements in ED while the remaining 19 achieved full erectile function recovery with no penile fibrosis and erectile pain. Cavernosography with 320-row DVCT is a reliable system that can be used to diagnose ED caused by venous leakage. This is especially useful in accurately determining the type of venous and allows for a better prognosis and direction of treatment.

Young female Black rat (Rattus rattus), were administered monthly long acting steroid contraceptive to induce hypertriglyceridemia. It was observed that by 3 weeks of the second injection of estrogen containing mixed type of contraceptive, female rats developed consistent and frank hyperglyceridemia . TG in the treated rats was 195.8 ± 7.44 mg /100 ml as compared to 91.5 ± 6.27 mg/100ml in plasma of the control group.

AbstractObjectivesThe aim of the present study is to evaluate the diagnostic powers of fractional magnesium, sodium and potassium as markers of renal tubular damage in normotensive type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with respect to microalbuminuria and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).Materials and methodsForty healthy volunteers and 91 normotensive T2DM patients were included in the study. Patient group was divided into two according to albuminuria level; 49 were normoalbuminuric and 42 were microalbuminuric. In addition to albumin in urine, urine and serum Na, K, Mg and creatinine values were measured to calculate fractional electrolyte excretion rates.ResultsIn normoalbuminuric and microalbuminuric groups, fractional excretion of magnesium (FEMg) values were found to be significantly higher than the control group (p < 0.05). There was a moderate correlation between FEMg and albümin to cratinin ratio (ACR) (Spearman r = 0.3215, p < 0.05). In the ROC analysis for eGFR and FEMg based on microalbuminuria, the areas under the curve were 0.625 and 0.732, respectively (diagnostic sensitivity 59.52% and 66.67%; specificity 70.79% and 77.53%, p < 0.05).ConclusionFor renal tubular damage predicted by microalbuminuria, FEMg could be accepted as a candidate biochemical marker with diagnostic and prognostic value.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Smooth muscle fiber has fundamental importance in erection. Alterations in its function or quantity may be associated with erectile dysfunction. The study objective was to assess the proportion of penile smooth muscle fiber in patients with severe erectile dysfunction. DESIGN AND SETTING: Clinical study, in the Sexual Dysfunction Group, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (Unifesp), and in the Anatomy Laboratory, Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). METHODS: Twenty patients with severe erectile dysfunction were selected to form two groups of ten patients: one with normal arterial flow (age range: 44 to 78 years) and the other with altered arterial flow (age range: 38 to 67 years). These groups were compared with a group formed by ten cadavers aged 18 to 25 years that were presumed to have been potent. Quantification of the smooth muscle fibers was done by means of an immunohistochemical study. RESULTS: The proportion of smooth muscle fiber found was 41.15% for the control group. The patients with erectile dysfunction and normal arterial flow presented 27.24% and those with altered arterial flow presented 25.74%; 19 patients presented at least one chronic disease or risk factor for erectile dysfunction, with prominence for diabetes mellitus, systemic arterial hypertension and smoking. CONCLUSION: Among patients with severe erectile dysfunction, the arterial flow on its own does not present interference in the proportion of smooth muscle fiber. The diminution of the proportion of smooth muscle fiber may result from chronic diseases and vascular risk factors.

As a result of the epidemiological analysis, it was found that for the observation period from 2016 to 2018 the prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men was 36,3±3,4%. The sexual behavior of men with ED was characterized by the presence of a large number of sexual partners from the onset of sexual activity, which did not have significant statistical differences between groups. Analysis of the social status of patients showed that 107 (64,8 ± 3,7%) of the surveyed men in the main group had a higher education, while in the control group only 14 (28,0 ± 6,3%) patients (p>0,05). In 30,3±2,2% of all examined men, chronic inflammatory diseases of the male genital area (prostatitis, vesiculitis, epididymitis) prevailed. 10,6±1,4% of men had endocrine disorders (hyperprolactinemia, hypogonadism, hypergonadotropinemia), 4,9% had varicocele, 9,9% had sexually transmitted infections.

Introduction: In our study, we aimed to investigate the association between a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and subsequent erectile dysfunction (ED). This is a population-based study using the claims dataset from The National Health Insurance Research Database. Methods: We included 72,642 patients with TBI aged over 20 years, retrospectively, selected from the longitudinal health insurance database during 2000–2010, according to the ICD-9-CM. The control group consisted of 217,872 patients without TBI that were randomly chosen from the database at a ratio of 1:3, with age- and index year matched. Cox proportional hazards analysis was used to estimate the association between the TBI and subsequent ED. Results: After a 10-year follow-up, the incidence rate of ED was higher in the TBI patients when compared with the non-TBI control group (24.66 and 19.07 per 100,000, respectively). Patients with TBI had a higher risk of developing ED than the non-TBI cohort after the adjustment of the confounding factors, such as age, comorbidity, residence of urbanization and locations, seasons, level of care, and insured premiums (adjusted hazard ratio (HR) = 2.569, 95% CI [1.890, 3.492], p < .001). Conclusion: This is the first study using a comprehensive nationwide database to analyze the association of ED and TBI in the Asian population. After adjusted the confounding factors, patients with TBI have a significantly higher risk of developing ED, especially organic ED, than the general population. This finding might remind clinicians that it’s crucial in early identification and treatment of ED in post-TBI patients.

Introduction: Sickle cell anemia is a disease characterized by a wide vaso-occlusive incident from micro-vascular incident to muscularactivity. The cochlear function can also get affected by this vaso-occlusion. Objective: It is aimed at determining what kind of effects sickle cell anemia has on hearing and balance system. Methods: This study has been conducted on 46 patients with sickle cell anemia and 45 healthy individuals. For all participants, their pure tone hearing thresholds and videonystagmography (VNG) findings have been determined in 17 frequencies between 125–16.000 Hz. Results: All hearing thresholds between 125 and 16,000 Hz, pure tone averages of patients with sickle cell anemia have been found statistically significant to be higher than the corresponding values in the control group(p < 0.05). The normal hearing rate of patients with sickle cell anemia has been determined to be 71.1% conductive hearing loss (CHL) to be 4.4%, sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) to be 22.2%, and mixed type hearing loss to be 2.2% in right ear; the normal hearing rate has been determined to be 71.1%, CHL to be 2.2%, SNHL to be 22.2%, and mixed type hearing loss to be 4.4% in left ear. Statistically significant difference has not been found between head shake, spontaneous nystagmus, optokinetic, tracking test batteries, static and dynamic positional tests used in VNG, saccade accuracy and saccade peak velocity, which are saccadic test findings of 2 groups. However, saccadic latency, which is a saccadic test finding, has been determined to be longer in patients with sickle cell anemia in comparison to the control group. Conclusion: While sickle cell anemia causes hearing deficits, it does not have any effect on the central or peripheral vestibular system.

Abstract Purpose to study the application of path type early rehabilitation nursing in the nursing of patients with cerebral infarction and to explore its impact on the recovery of neurological function. Methods Patients with acute cerebral infarction in our hospital were randomly divided into two groups. The control group used conventional treatment methods. The experimental group used path type early rehabilitation care based on conventional treatment methods and observed the curative effect. ResultsThe NIHSS scores in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the P value was less than 0.05, which was statistically significant. Conclusion Path type early rehabilitation nursing has a positive effect on the treatment of patients with cerebral infarction, which contributes to the recovery of neurological function of patients and is worthy of promotion in treatment.

This study examined the effects of lighting with different spectra on humans, as measured by mean arterial pressure, heart rate and visual comfort. Twenty subjects were recruited and tested under 12 different lighting spectra, produced by self-made luminaires respectively. In order to evaluate the shape similarity between the measured spectrum and the solar spectrum, a full-spectrum index E (0–100) was proposed. The higher the value of E, the closer the spectrum is to the full range of daylight. Groups whose E value is above 90 are classified as full-spectrum lighting groups. Subjects were required to maintain a calm mood during the 3-h testing time, and data were recorded every 20 min. Pearson correlation test and independent samples t-test were performed on the mean values. Results showed that heart rate and visual comfort were likely to be influenced by the spectrum. The higher the E is, the lower the average heart rate is and the higher the visual comfort is. Full-spectrum lighting group has a significantly lower heart rate and higher visual comfort than the control group.
