Last summer, the galley proofs of my review article on the structural analysis of human serum albumin landed on my desk. The article, which included a summary of over 10 years of work by my group, was scrawled with comments from the subeditor. Some I agreed with, some I didn't, but one remark in particular creased my brow with irritation: “Author should avoid use of the personal pronoun.” No, I thought, I damn well shouldn't. The impulse that sparked this reaction was the probably same one that propelled me into the world of science blogging.
