We report here the synthesis and characterization of a new calix[8]arene-supported PEPPSI-IPr Pd polymetallic complex. This complex, showing greater steric hindrance around the Pd centers compared with previous calix[8]arene-based catalysts, demonstrated high reactivity and selectivity for the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling of aryl chlorides under mild conditions. Along with this good performance, the new catalyst showed low Pd leaching into the final Suzuki–Miyaura coupling products, indicative of a heterogeneous-type reactivity. This rare combination of good reactivity towards challenging substrates and low metal leaching offers great promise at both academic and industrial levels.

Solid-phase synthesis of electrophilic oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) was achieved using dimethyl-Dmoc (dM-Dmoc) as amino protecting group. Due to the high steric hindrance of the 2-(propan-2-ylidene)-1,3-dithiane side product from deprotection, the use of excess nucleophilic scavengers such as aniline to prevent Michael addition of the side product to the deprotected ODN during ODN cleavage and deprotection was no longer needed. The improved technology was demonstrated by the synthesis and characterization of five ODNs including three modified ones. The modified ODNs contained the electrophilic groups ethyl ester, α-chloroamide, and thioester. Using the technology, the sensitive groups can be installed at any location within the ODN sequences without using any sequence- or functionality-specific conditions and procedures.

The reaction of CpTi(CO)2 (1), Cp2TiCl (2), and Cp2TiCl2 (3) (Cp = η5-C5H5) with purine (PuH) and adenine (AdH) in organic solvents is described. The compound 1 reacts with both molecules in an oxidative fashion giving Cp2Ti(C5H3N4)(C5H4N4) (4) and (Cp2Ti)2(C5H3N5) (5) with concomitant liberation of molecular carbon monoxide and hydrogen (4:1) following a first order rate law in metal complex. The compound 2 forms an adduct compound Cp2TiCl(C5H4N4) (6) with PuH. Monosubstituted derivatives Cp2TiCl(C5H3N4) (7) and Cp2TiCl(C5H4N5) (8) are formed from the reaction of the deprotonated bases with 3. In addition to the usual elemental analysis, the characteristic ir, 1H nmr, epr, and ms results are given for the new compounds.
