In a binary system of a nematic and a cholesteric liquid crystal an inversion of the helix - sense has been observed at a definite composition xn by measurements of circular dichroism and optical rotatory power. The inversion is accompanied by a decrease of the helical twisting power approaching zero at xn .

In a binary system of cholesteric liquid crystals with righthanded sense of helix a twofold helical inversion at two different molar fractions ϰn,1 and ϰn, 2 has been observed by measurements of circular dichroism and optical rotatory power. In the region of composition between ϰn,1 and ϰn, 2 all mixtures exhibit a left-handed cholesteric structure.
