Energy-storage performances of NaNbO3 system were effectively enhanced by composition engineering inducing relaxor behavior and grain refinement. Excellent Wrec = 3.7 J cm−3 and η = 82.1% were achieved in the NN-0.04CZ-0.16BNT multilayer capacitors.

The validity of Mn element on enhanced energy storage performance and fatigue resistance of Mn-doped 0.7Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3–0.3Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 lead-free ferroelectric ceramics (BNT–BST–xMn) is certified by doping. The effects of Mn modification on the dielectric behavior, ferroelectric, energy storage properties, and AC impedance are comprehensively investigated. It is found that the average grain size of the ceramics modified by Mn additions is reduced slightly. Moreover, the relaxor properties are evidently enhanced with the increased Mn content. The AC impedance spectra can even better clarify the dielectric response and relaxor behavior. The results suggest that both of the dielectric response and relaxor behavior are determined by defects especially concentration of the oxygen vacancy. The superior energy storage properties are realized at x = 0.05 with an energy storage density (Wrec) of 1.33 J/cm3 as well as energy storage efficiency (η) of 86.2% at 100 kV/cm, accompanied with a superior thermal stability. BNT–BST–5Mn ceramics can maintain a stable energy storage performance within 106 fatigue cycles, indicating an excellent fatigue resistance.

The temperature dependence of the dielectric permittivity and polarization hysteresis loops of P(VDF-TrFE-CFE) polymer films with different compositions are studied. Among them, the three compositions, 51.3/48.7/6.2, 59.8/40.2/7.3, and 70/30/8.1, are characterized for the first time. Relaxor behavior is confirmed for all studied samples. Increasing the CFE content results in lowering the freezing temperature and stabilizes the ergodic relaxor state. The observed double hysteresis loops are related to the field-induced transition to a ferroelectric state. The critical field corresponding to this transition varies with the composition and temperature; it becomes larger for temperatures far from the freezing temperature. The energy storage performance is evaluated from the analysis of unipolar polarization hysteresis loops. P(VDF-TrFE-CFE) 59.8/40.2/7.3 shows the largest energy density of about 5 J·cm−3 (at the field of 200 MV·m−1) and a charge–discharge efficiency of 63%, which iscomparable with the best literature data for the neat terpolymers.

In this work, a series of (1-x)Sr0.7Ba0.3Nb2O6-xSr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 ceramics were formulated by a phase-mixed sintering, the microstructure and energy storage performance were studied. The introduction of SBT induces the formation of equiaxed crystals leading to the denser microstructure, thus improving the dielectric breakdown strength. In addition, the enhancement of relaxor behavior improves the energy storage performance. For 0.94Sr0.7Ba0.3Nb2O6-0.06Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3, an energy storage density of 0.49J/cm3 and an efficiency of 94.2% were achieved.

Electrical homogeneity is vital in optimising energy storage performance in BiFeO3–BaTiO3–xBi(Li0.5Nb0.5)O3 ceramic multilayer capacitors, giving rise to high recoverable energy density ∼13.8 J cm−3 under electric field ∼950 kV cm−1 and fatigue resistance behaviour.
