A convenient and efficient chiral CuFe2O4@SiO2-Mn(III) Ch.salen nanocatalyst has been developed for the C-N cross-coupling reactions of aryl halides/ phenylboronic acid with N-heterocyclic compounds in water and/or DMSO under mild conditions. The catalyst could be applied for the N-arylation of a variety of nitrogen-containing heterocycles with aryl chlorides, bromides, iodides and phenylboronic acid under mild conditions. Moderate to good yields were achieved for all substrates. The structure of catalyst was characterized using various techniques including FT-IR, FE-SEM, EDX, XRD, TEM and TGA. The catalyst can be simply recovered and reused for several times without significant loss of activity.

Mucin is a glycoprotein with proven potential in the biomaterials field, but its use is still underexploited for such applications. The present work aims to produce a synthesis of methacryloyl mucin single-network (SN) hydrogels and their double-cross-linked-network (DCN) counterparts. Following the synthesis of the mucin methacryloyl derivative, various SN hydrogels are prepared through the photopolymerization of methacrylate bonds, using reaction media with different pH values. The SN hydrogels are converted into DCN systems via supplementary cross-linking in tannic acid aqueous solution. The chemical modification of mucin is described, and the obtained product is characterized; the structural modification of mucin is assessed through FTIR spectroscopy, and the circular dichroism and the isoelectric point of methacryloyl mucin is evaluated. The affinity for aqueous media of both SN and DCN hydrogels is estimated, and the mechanical properties of the systems are assessed, both at macroscale through uniaxial compression and rheology tests and also at microscale through nanoindentation tests.

Palladium nanoparticles were efficiently prepared in situ by sodium cyanoborohydride reduction of Pd(ii) at room temperature using calcium-cholate hydrogel fibers as templates. The PdNPs self-organize on the gel fibers, which supports the controlled growth as well as stabilization of PdNPs. The hybrid xerogel was used as an efficient catalyst for the Suzuki coupling reaction in water.

Pd–Ni bimetallic nanoparticles (BMNPs) supported on ZrO2 were prepared by an impregnation–reduction method. The BMNPs showed excellent catalytic performance in Suzuki carbon–carbon cross-coupling reactions and almost quantitative conversion of the substrates was obtained under mild conditions in the absence of ligand. The excellent catalytic performance of the bimetallic catalyst could be a result of the synergistic effect between the two metal components. The catalyst showed outstanding recyclability during the reaction process; no obvious decrease in catalytic performance was observed after five cycles.

The present investigation highlights the synthesis of polyaniline (PANI) coated graphene oxide doped with SrTiO3 nanocube nanocomposites through facile in-situ oxidative polymerization method for the efficient removal of carcinogenic dyes, namely, the cationic dye methylene blue (MB) and the anionic dye methyl orange (MO). The synthesised nanocomposites were characterised by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The adsorption efficiencies of graphene oxide (GO), PANI homopolymer and SrTiO3 nanocubes-doped nanocomposites were assessed by monitoring the adsorption of methylene blue and methyl orange dyes from aqueous solution. The adsorption efficiency of nanocomposites doped with SrTiO3 nanocubes were found to be of higher magnitude as compared with undoped nanocomposite. Moreover, the nanocomposite with 2 wt% SrTiO3 with respect to graphene oxide demonstrated excellent adsorption behaviour with 99% and 91% removal of MB and MO respectively, in a very short duration of time.

Abstract The present study highlights the sunlight-assisted photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) using tungsten disulphide/polypyrrole (WS2/PPy) composite as a photocatalyst. WS2/PPy was prepared via oxidative polymerization using ferric chloride (FeCl3) as an oxidant. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) measurement were used to ensure the physicochemical properties of WS2/PPy. The photocatalytic efficiencies of the photocatalysts were examined by degrading methylene blue (MB) under sunlight irradiation. The results showed that the degradation efficiency of WS2/PPy was higher than the pristine PPy Several optimizations such as effect of the concentration, contact time, photocatalyst dosage and initial concentration were investigated. The results revealed that, under optimum condition of pH 3, 100 mg photocatalyst dosage, 10 ppm MB initial concentration within 180 minutes contact time, were the most effective parameters, that produced 96.15% of sunlight-assisted photodegradation in aqueous solution of MB.
