In this study, a calcium–aluminum-layered double hydroxide (CaAl-LDH) thin film was grown on an AA6082 aluminum alloy, for the very first time, by using a facile in situ growth method in an effort to investigate the CaAl-LDH structural geometry and corresponding corrosion resistance properties.

V2O5-WO3/TiO2 as a commercial selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst usually used at middle-high temperatures was modified by loading of MnOx for the purpose of enhancing its performance at lower temperatures. Manganese oxides were loaded onto V-W/Ti monolith by the methods of impregnation (I), precipitation (P), and in-situ growth (S), respectively. SCR activity of each modified catalyst was investigated at temperatures in the range of 100–340 °C. Catalysts were characterized by specific surface area and pore size determination (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), etc. Results show that the loading of MnOx remarkably enhanced the SCR activity at a temperature lower than 280 °C. The catalyst prepared by the in-situ growth method was found to be most active for SCR.

For the development of light, flexible, and wearable electronic devices, it is crucial to develop energy storage components combining high capacity and flexibility. Herein, an all-solid-state supercapacitor is prepared through an in situ growth method. The electrode contains polyaniline deposited on a carbon nanotube and a poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) film. The hybrid electrode exhibits excellent mechanical and electrochemical performance. The optimized few-layer polyaniline wrapping layer provides a conductive network that effectively enhances the cycling stability, as 66.4% of the starting capacitance is maintained after 3000 charge/discharge cycles. Furthermore, the polyaniline (PANI)-50 displays the highest areal energy density of 83.6 mWh·cm−2, with an areal power density of 1000 mW·cm−2, and a high areal capacity of 620 mF cm−2. The assembled device delivers a high areal capacity (192.3 mF·cm−2) at the current density of 0.1 mA·cm−2, a high areal energy (26.7 mWh·cm−2) at the power density of 100 mW·cm−2, and shows no significant decrease in the performance with a bending angle of 180°. This unique flexible supercapacitor thus exhibits great potential for wearable electronics.

The sulfonated polystyrene hollow microspheres (SPHS) with interpenetrated walls were used as templates. An in-situ growth of BaTiO3nanocrystals was conducted against SPHS templates at ambient pressure and 70°C. The structure and morphology of the resultant samples were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR and TGA. The results indicated that the composite hollow microspheres with diameter about 450 nm were double-shelled and composed of 30 nm cubic BaTiO3nanocrystals.

In this work, synthesis of ZIF-8 membranes via in situ and secondary seeded growth methods was conducted at the preliminary stage. Synthesis durations were varied at 4 h and 36 h using in situ growth method. For secondary growth, the seeding procedure was applied through rubbing and dip-coating of the seeds on the support. The resultant membranes were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Subsequently, the defects of the resultant membranes were determined using nitrogen gas permeation test. The results showed that, ZIF-8 membrane synthesized using in situ growth method for 4 h exhibited highest crystallinity and lower defects with the nitrogen gas permeance of 5.09 × 10-7 mol/m2·s·Pa. Besides, in situ growth method has shown its potential in synthesizing high quality ZIF-8 membrane through an easy and faster route.
