The experimental results obtained/or the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl diphenyl phosphate (NPDPP) in the presence of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), micelles of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and an aqueous solution of glycerol were analyzed taking into consideration the internal pressure and the cohesive forces of the reaction medium. The effect of glycerol on mice/le formation and also its influence on the internal pressure of the reaction medium are large enough to affect the micellar catalyzed alkaline hydrolysis of the phosphate ester.

The influence of alkaline aqueous solution treatment of groundnut shell–high density polyethylene composites consist of magnesium hydroxide as flame-retardant additives was investigated. FTT daul cone calorimetry and Perkin-Elmer Diamond differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to characterize flammability and thermal properties of the fabricated composites. Quanta 200ESEM was used to investigate the effect of alkaline aqueous solution treatment on the microstructure of the composites. The result obtained revealed that the alkaline treatment of the shell enhanced filler–matrix compatibility. The cone calorimetry result revealed that Mg(OH)2 has good fire retardancy characteristics on the fabricated composites as properties such as heat release rate, effective heat of combustion, mass loss rate, total smoke produced, and specific extinction area were enhanced. DSC results suggested that the additives had little impact on the melting temperature of the composite.

The hydrolysis of 2-acetyloxybenzoic acid in the pH range 6-12 has been studied in the presence of micelles of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (ctab) and cetylpyridinium chloride (cpc). In the plateau region (pH 6-8) the hydrolysis is inhibited by the presence of micelles, while in the region where the normal BAC2 hydrolysis (pH > 9) occurs the reaction is catalysed by micelles of ctab and cpc. The mechanism of hydrolysis in the plateau region is shown to involve general base catalysis by the adjacent ionized carboxy group both in the presence and absence of micelles. This reaction is inhibited in the presence of micelles because the substrate molecules are solubilized into the micelle and water is less available in this environment than in normal aqueous solution.

A convenient method to synthesize starch/lactic acid copolymer was studied in this work. Copolymer of starch graft with lactic acid (LA) was directly prepared by reaction of cornstarch with lactic acid in sodium hydroxide (NaOH) aqueous solution as a catalyst. The product was characterized by IR and WAXD, and the good adhesion between the two components has been observed by SEM. The results showed that the highest grafting degree could reach 33.60% when the graft copolymerization was carried in 0.40 mol·L-1 NaOH aqueous for 9 h at 90°C with the 1: 5~6 ratio of starch and lactic acid.

AbstractNew C2-glycosyl triazole derivatives 6a–l were synthesized by cyclization of glycosyl acylthiosemicarbazides 5 in refluxing 3 N sodium hydroxide aqueous solution. Substrates 5 were obtained by the reaction of glycosyl isothiocyanate 3 with various hydrazides. The acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities of compounds 6 were tested by Ellman’s method. Compounds that exhibited over 85% inhibition were subsequently evaluated for the IC50 values. Compound 6f possesses the best acetylcholinesterase-inhibition activity with IC50 of 1.46±0.25 μg/mL.
