The easily available pyrido[1,2-a]pyrazines of type 1 are versatile building blocks for ring transformation reactions.W ith heterocyclic quinones such as quinoline-2,5,8-triones 4a-c, a highly regioselective [4+2]-cycloaddition reaction takes place in the first step, followed by a ring transformation cascade.T he 1,6-diazaanthracene-2,9,10-triones 5a-e, which possess an additional bipyridine substructure, could be isolated as main products. In order to modify the starting products of type 1, a metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with acetylenic benzoic esters 9a,b has been performed.T he modified pyridopyrazines 10a,b which were obtained in good yields could be transformed by analogy to 1a,b into ring-fused heterocyclic quinones 12a,b.

AbstractCyclopentadithiophene (CPDT), a Csp3-bridged bithiophene heteroaromatic unit, displays interesting properties when it is embedded in the repeating units of π-conjugated polymers, and they are applied in organic electronics devices. Common synthetic routes to CPDT-derived polymers rely on toxic methodologies whilst alternative non-toxic strategies such as the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction have been less studied. In this report we demonstrate that the use of a N-methyliminodiacetic acid (MIDA) boronate ester-derived CPDT monomer allows the efficient formation of poly(cyclopentadithiophene) homopolymer under Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction conditions. Thus, the use of MIDA boronate esters might be extended to other organic units to design and construct a plethora of π-conjugated polymers.

<p>Verdazyl-nitroxide diradicals were synthesized using the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of the corresponding iodoverdazyls with a nitronyl nitroxide-2-ide gold(I) complex with high yields (up to 82%). The synthesized diradicals were found to be highly thermally stable and have a singlet (D<i>E</i>ST » -64 cm–1) or triplet ground state (D<i>E</i>ST ³ 25 and 100 cm–1), depending on which canonical hydrocarbon diradical type they belong to. Upon crystallization, triplet diradicals form unique one-dimensional (1D) spin <i>S</i> = 1 chains of organic diradicals with intrachain ferromagnetic coupling of <i>J</i>′/<i>k</i>B from 3 to 6 K.</p>

By using an iron-based catalyst, access to enantioenriched 1,1-diarylakanes was enabled through an enantioselective Suzuki-Miyaura crosscoupling reaction. The combination of a chiral cyanobis(oxazoline) ligand framework and 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene additive were essential to afford high yields and enantioselectivities in cross-coupling reactions between unactivated aryl boronic esters and a variety of benzylic chlorides, including challenging ortho-substituted benzylic chloride substrates. Mechanistic investigations implicate a stereoconvergent pathway involving carbon-centered radical intermediates.

<p>We report a Ni(0)-catalyzed cross coupling reaction between simple ketones and 1,3-dienes. A variety of a-allylic alkylation products were formed in an 1,2-addition manner with excellent regioselectivity. Water was found to significantly accelerate this transformation. A HO-Ni-H species generated from oxidative addition of Ni(0) to H2O is proposed to play a “dual role” in activating both the ketone and the diene substrate.</p>
