Hybrid sodium–air battery (HSAB) principles are introduced, and the synthesis and rational designs of electrocatalysts based on the oxygen reduction reaction/oxygen evolution reaction are comprehensively reviewed for the purpose of providing insight into the development of efficient air electrodes.
