The 1D {[CuII(cyclam)]3[WV(CN)8]2.5H2O}n (1·5H2O) (cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) coordination polymer of ladder topology can be obtained in water-alcohol solution from [Cu(cyclam)]2+ and [W(CN)8]3− building blocks. Upon dehydration, 1·5H2O undergoes a single-crystal-to-single-crystal structural transformation to the anhydrous {[CuII(cyclam)]3[WV(CN)8]2}n (1) form, which retains the same topology, but is characterized by shorter Cu-W distances and significantly more bent CN-bridges. The deformation of the coordination skeleton is reflected in magnetic properties: the predominant intra-chain interactions change from ferromagnetic in 1·5H2O to antiferromagnetic in 1. The reaction between the same building blocks in water solution under slow diffusion conditions leads to the formation of a 0D {[CuII(cyclam)(H2O)]2[CuII(cyclam)][WV(CN)8]2}.3H2O pentanuclear assembly (2·3H2O).

AbstractThe neutral, four-fold protonated pyridine-3,5-dicarbox(3,5-dicarboxylatoanilide) (H4L) reacts with Mn(II) salts under hydrothermal conditions to yield a new complex: [Mn2(L)(H2O)2]·H2O (1), which has been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. Complex 1 exhibits a binodal (4,8)-connected 3D framework with flu (412.612.84)(46)2 topology. The magnetic properties of 1 were investigated.

The coordination polymer [Cu3(tci)2(phen)2] n (H3tci = 1,3,5-tris(2-carboxyethyl)isocyanurate; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been synthesised. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies have shown that the polymer displays a 2-D metal–organic framework based on linear trinuclear copper cluster units, and its magnetic properties indicate antiferromagnetic interactions.

A new dissymmetrical oxamidate ligand has been used to construct a metal-organic network. Using this ligand, a novel coordination polymer, namely {[Cu(obea)]2Cu・CH3OH・H2O}n (1) [H3obea = N1-(2-carboxyphenyl)-N2-(2-hydroxyethyl)oxalamide] has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The structure of complex 1 consists of neutral trinuclear complex units. Through syn-anti carboxylate bridges, the complex features a 2D structure with a helical substructure. Its magnetic properties have been investigated.

New Hofmann-type metal–organic frameworks display rare and complete ligand exchange induced single crystal to single crystal transformations from 3D frameworks to 2D layers, accompanied by magnetic properties transition from two-step SCO behavior to hysteretic SCO behavior.

The new coordination polymers (CPs) [Zn(μ-1κO1:1κO2-L)(H2O)2]n·n(H2O) (1) and [Cd(μ4-1κO1O2:2κN:3,4κO3-L)(H2O)]n·n(H2O) (2) are reported, being prepared by the solvothermal reactions of 5-{(pyren-4-ylmethyl)amino}isophthalic acid (H2L) with Zn(NO3)2.6H2O or Cd(NO3)2.4H2O, respectively. They were synthesized in a basic ethanolic medium or a DMF:H2O mixture, respectively. These compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and elemental analysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that compound 1 is a one dimensional linear coordination polymer, whereas 2 presents a two dimensional network. In both compounds, the coordinating ligand (L2−) is twisted due to the rotation of the pyrene ring around the CH2-NH bond. In compound 1, the Zn(II) metal ion has a tetrahedral geometry, whereas, in 2, the dinuclear [Cd2(COO)2] moiety acts as a secondary building unit and the Cd(II) ion possesses a distorted octahedral geometry. Recently, several CPs have been explored for the cyanosilylation reaction under conventional conditions, but microwave-assisted cyanosilylation of aldehydes catalyzed by CPs has not yet been well studied. Thus, we have tested the solvent-free microwave-assisted cyanosilylation reactions of different aldehydes, with trimethylsilyl cyanide, using our synthesized compounds, which behave as highly active heterogeneous catalysts. The coordination polymer 1 is more effective than 2, conceivably due to the higher Lewis acidity of the Zn(II) than the Cd(II) center and to a higher accessibility of the metal centers in the former framework. We have also checked the heterogeneity and recyclability of these coordination polymers, showing that they remain active at least after four recyclings.

We report on the synthesis and physical properties of cm-sized CoGeO3 single crystals grown in a high pressure mirror furnace at pressures of 80 bar. Direction dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements on our single crystals reveal highly anisotropic magnetic properties that we attribute to the impact of strong single ion anisotropy appearing in this system with TN∼33.5 K. Furthermore, we observe effective magnetic moments that are exceeding the spin only values of the Co ions, which reveals the presence of sizable orbital moments in CoGeO3.
