Nasicon type compounds of general formula Li1..3M0.3Ti1.7 (PO4)3 (M = Al, Cr, Fe) were prepared using melt quenching method. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and infrared spectra. Thermal stability against crystallization was evaluated by DSC curve. All the compounds crystallize in hexagonal lattice with R-3c space group. The IR spectra show the characteristic PO4 vibrations. DSC curve reveals that the Li1.3Fe0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3 glass-ceramics possesses the better thermal stability against crystallization. Conductivity studies indicate that the total conductivity is dominated by the grain boundary

Glasses have been synthesized in the system La2O3-PbO-MnO-B2O3 varying the MnOcontent in large compositional range between 10 and 70 mol%. Glass-ceramics containing La0,6Pb0,4MnO3 phase have been obtained directly by melt quenching method. Transition and crystallization temperatures have been determined by DTA. The increasing of the B2O3-content improves the thermal stability of the glasses. By TEM analysis, different type microheterogeneous structures have been observed in compositions rich in B2O3.

This paper reports the crystallization and superconducting properties of Bi 4 Sr 3 Ca 3 Cu 4 O x glass-ceramics. The glass was prepared using the conventional melt-quenching method. X-ray diffraction pattern has shown that the annealing at temperature of 800°C converted the glass into glass-ceramics with Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O x superconducting phase (2212-phase). The superconducing transition exhibits the change in the slope that is characteristic for two different superconducting phases. It is observed that T c (zero) increases from 20 K to 80 K with increasing time of annealing. The influence of magnetic field on the superconducting transition has been investigated. Our studies revealed a remarkable broadening of the resistive transition as a function of temperature with increasing field. The temperature width ( T c-T) of the transition for both phases increases with magnetic field according to Tinkham model.

In this research, it is interesting to fabricate glass ceramics containing lead free ferroelectric crystals. The new lead free ferroelectric phase of interest is orthorhombic Bi2GeO5 which are precipitated in the BiO1.5-GeO2-BO1.5 system and studied in the region of 60 mol% BiO1.5:20 mol% GeO2: 20 mol% BO1.5. The glasses were prepared by conventional melt-quenching method. The glasses were melted separately in Pt and Al2O3 crucible in an air atmosphere. It is found that the as-received glasses were easily obtained from Al2O3 crucible while that from Pt crucible devitrification of Bi2GeO5 crystals were observed in some glasses, giving rise to an instability and difficulty in obtaining good based glasses by using this Pt crucible. The glass ceramics prepared from Pt crucible crystallized into two phases of the expected Bi2GeO5 and second phase Bi4Ge3O12 while Bi2GeO5 phase only observed in the glass ceramics prepared from Al2O3 crucible. Crystallinity and phases of the glass ceramics have a significant effect on their dielectric properties.

Transparent oxyfluoride glass-ceramics (GCs) with embedded β-Na1.5Y1.5F6 crystals doped with Er3+ ions were fabricated by a melt-quenching method with subsequent heat-treatment. The structural characterizations and spectroscopic techniques were performed to verify the precipitation of β-Na1.5Y1.5F6 crystals and partition of the Er3+ dopant into the crystals. Bright green up-conversion (UC) emission was achieved in Er3+-doped glass-ceramic (Er-GC). Furthermore, the temperature-dependent visible UC behavior based on thermally coupled energy levels (TCLs) and non-thermally coupled energy levels (NTCLs) was also examined in the temperature range 298 k to 823 K with maximum relative sensitivity (Sr) of 1.1% K−1 at 298 K for TCLs in Er-G and Er-GC samples.

This contribution is devoted to the study of morphology and magnetic properties of sodium borosilicate glasses with different concentrations (15, 20, and 25 wt.%) ofα-Fe2O3in an initial furnace charge. These glasses were prepared by a melt-quenching method. For all glasses a coexistence of drop-like and two-phase interpenetrative structures is observed. The most part of a drop structure is formed by self-assembling iron oxides particles. All types of glasses demonstrate the magnetic properties and can be used for preparation of porous magnetic matrices with nanometer through dendrite channel structure.
