Herein, the geometry, electronic structure, Fe–ligand bonding nature and simulated IR spectrum of α-Keggin, lacunary Keggin and iron(ii–vi)-substituted Keggin type polyoxometalates have been studied using the DFT/OPTX-PBE method and NBO analysis.

The electrochemistry of four novel Fe(III) complexes of the type [Fe(L)Cl], involving quadridentate ligands based on the condensation products of benzoylacetone-S-methylisothiosemicarbazone with salicylaldehyde, 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde, 3,5-dichlorosalicylaldehyde or 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde, was studied in DMF and DMSO at a GC electrode. All complexes undergo a two-step one-electron reductions, usually complicated by chemical reactions. In solutions containing Cl-, the ligand-exchange reactions Cl--DMF and Cl--DMSO take place. Stability of the chloride-containing complexes was discussed in terms of the coordinated ligand effect, oxidation state of the central atom and, in particular, of the donor effect of the solvent. Some relevant kinetic data were calculated.

The electronic structures of homovalent [V2(μ-S2)2(R2dtc)4] (R = Et, iBu) and mixed-valent [V2(μ-S2)2(R2dtc)4]+ are reported here. The soft-donor, eight-coordinate ligand shell combined with the fully delocalised ground state provides a...

A VESCF molecular-orbital study of the electronic structure of the triiodide anion in its crystalline environment in caesium triiodide and in tetraphenylarsonium triiodide reveals the effect of the lattices upon the electronic structures. The calculated total valence-electron energy as a function of the position of the central iodine nucleus provides an understanding of the observed geometries of the anion in the two crystals. The energy plot also implies that the asymmetric stretch of the triiodide is strongly anharmonic in the crystal. A satisfactory correlation exists between observed iodine : iodine bond lengths and computed bond orders.
