An efficient N-doped reduced graphene oxide (N-RGO)/Ag3PO4 nanocomposite with enhanced photocatalytic activity has been prepared through a facile solution-based approach. Since N-RGO could offer more sites for the anchoring of Ag3PO4 nanoparticles, and effectively promote the charge carriers separation and transfer due to its high electrical conductivity, the photocatalytic activity of N-RGO/Ag3PO4 nanocomposite is much higher than bare Ag3PO4 and N-RGO in the degradation of phenol pollutant under simulated solar light irradiation. The mechanism for the photocatalytic process was also investigated. The excellent photocatalytic performance makes the N-RGO/Ag3PO4 nanocomposite a promising photocatalyst for organic pollutant treatment.

Photogenerated electron/hole recombination greatly limits the catalytic efficiency of TiO2, and recently modification with graphene substance has been regarded as an effective way to enhance the photocatalytic performance of TiO2. When referring to the fabrication of graphene based materials, the reduction process of graphene oxide has been demonstrated to be a key step. Therefore, it is highly required to develop an efficient and simple route for the GO reduction and the formation of TiO2-reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanocomposites. In this study, TiO2-RGO nanocomposites were prepared by a facile and efficient one-step hydrothermal method using titanium (IV) butoxide (TBT) and graphene oxide (GO) without reducing agents. This method shows several unique features, including no requirement of harsh chemicals and high temperature involved, one-step hydrothermal reaction for mild reduction of GO and crystallization of TiO2 running in parallel, and the production of TiO2-RGO nanocomposites in a green and efficient synthetic route. In addition, the photocatalytic activities of the synthesized composites were systematically evaluated by degrading methylene blue (MB) under sun light irradiation. The TiO2-RGO nanocomposites show a superior photocatalytic activity to the synthesized pure TiO2. It is also found that the concentration of RGO in the nanocomposites plays a key role in the photocatalytic activity. Specifically, the composite with 1 wt % RGO shows the best photocatalytic activity, probably due to the reduction of the electron-hole recombination rate.

The mechanical behavior of an adhesive, in neat state and reinforced with up to 0.5 wt% of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was investigated here. Tests were done at temperatures between the ambient temperature and the glass transition temperature ( Tg[Formula: see text] of the adhesive. Using a metal mold, cured plates of the neat and RGO reinforced epoxy adhesive were prepared. The adhesive powder and the bulk dumbbell-shaped specimens, obtained from cured adhesive plates, were subjected to differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and tensile tests, respectively, to obtain the Tg as well as mechanical properties of the adhesives. The results indicated that adding RGO up to 0.5 wt% increased the glass transition temperature, the modulus of elasticity, and the strength of the adhesive. It was found that the presence of RGO reduced the adhesive’s strain at the break at the ambient temperature. However, at high temperatures, near the Tg, the ultimate strain of RGO-reinforced adhesives decreased slightly when compared to the ultimate strain of the neat specimens. This explains the reduction in toughness at ambient temperature obtained by adding RGO and the increase at high temperatures. Finally, the failure morphology of the neat and RGO-reinforced adhesive specimens was investigated using microscopic imaging of the specimens’ failure cross-sections, which supported and justified the experimental observations.

Poly(methylene blue) and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide composite film modified electrode (PMB-ERGO/GCE) was successfully fabricated by electropolymerization and was used for simultaneous determination of uric acid (UA) and xanthine (Xa). Based on the excellent electrocatalytic activity of PMB-ERGO/GCE, the electrochemical behaviors of UA and Xa were studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). Two anodic sensitive peaks at 0.630 V (versus Ag/AgCl) for UA and 1.006 V (versus Ag/AgCl) for Xa were given by CV in pH 3.0 phosphate buffer. The calibration curves for UA and Xa were obtained in the range of 8.00 × 10−8~4.00 × 10−4 M and 1.00 × 10−7~4.00 × 10−4 M, respectively, by SWV. The detection limits for UA and Xa were3.00×10-8 M and5.00×10-8 M, respectively. Finally, the proposed method was applied to simultaneously determine UA and Xa in human urine with good selectivity and high sensitivity.
