High-performance lithium–ion batteries (LIBs) are the main development direction of future energy storage devices. However, most LIBs still face a problem of high first irreversible capacity loss. Pre-lithiation technology can increase the content of active lithium source and compensate the loss of active lithium during the first cycle. Adding lithium supplement additive to the cathode provides an effective way to improve the electrochemical performance of LIBs. Here, Li2MoO3 has been investigated as a cathode additive in the full cells. In order to optimize its preparation, Li2MoO3 has been prepared by three different methods, including solid-phase method, liquid-phase method and ultrasonic method. Based on material characterization and electrochemical performance tests, Li2MoO3 material prepared by liquid-phase method shows the best lithium storage properties and chosen as a cathode additive in the LiNi[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text]Mn[Formula: see text]O2/SiO@C full cells. The addition of Li2MoO3 has successfully improved the electrochemical performance of the full cell. The first discharge specific capacity increases from 103.9 mAh g[Formula: see text] to 130.4 mAh g[Formula: see text]. In short, Li2MoO3 material is a promising cathode additive for LIBs.

For the first time, a powder of refractory body-centered cubic (bcc) HfTaTiNbZr-based high-entropy alloy (RHEA) was prepared by short-term (90 min) high-energy ball milling (HEBM) followed by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1300 °C for 10 min and the resultant bulk material was characterized by XRD and SEM/EDX. The material showed ultra-high Vickers hardness (10.7 GPa) and a density of 9.87 ± 0.18 g/cm³ (98.7%). Our alloy was found to consist of HfZrTiTaNb-based solid solution with bcc structure as a main phase, a hexagonal closest packed (hcp) Hf/Zr-based solid solution, and Me2Fe phases (Me = Hf, Zr) as minor admixtures. Principal elements of the HEA phase were uniformly distributed over the bulk of HfTaTiNbZr-based alloy. Similar alloys synthesized without milling or in the case of low-energy ball milling (LEBM, 10 h) consisted of a bcc HEA and a Hf/Zr-rich hcp solid solution; in this case, the Vickers hardness of such alloys was found to have a value of 6.4 GPa and 5.8 GPa, respectively.

Low-cost, vanadium-based mixed metal oxides mostly have a layered crystal structure with excellent kinetics for lithium-ion batteries, providing high energy density. The existence of multiple oxidation states and the coordination chemistry of vanadium require cost-effective, robust techniques to synthesize the scaling up of their morphology and surface properties. Hydrothermal synthesis is one of the most suitable techniques to achieve pure phase and multiple morphologies under various conditions of temperature and pressure. We attained a simple one-step hydrothermal approach to synthesize the reduced graphene oxide coated Nickel Vanadate (rGO@Ni3V2O8) composite with interconnected hollow microspheres. The self-assembly route produced microspheres, which were interconnected under hydrothermal treatment. Cyclic performance determined the initial discharge/charge capacities of 1209.76/839.85 mAh g−1 at the current density of 200 mA g−1 with a columbic efficiency of 69.42%, which improved to 99.64% after 100 cycles. High electrochemical performance was observed due to high surface area, the porous nature of the interconnected hollow microspheres, and rGO induction. These properties increased the contact area between electrode and electrolyte, the active surface of the electrodes, and enhanced electrolyte penetration, which improved Li-ion diffusivity and electronic conductivity.
