Copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized via thermal decomposition method and applied as a reusable and green catalyst in the synthesis of functionalized 4H-pyran derivatives using malononitrile, an aromatic aldehyde and a β-ketoester in ethanol at room temperature. Then it was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, thermo gravimetric and differential thermo gravimetric (TGA/DTG) analysis. The catalyst was recovered from the reaction mixture by applying an external magnet and decanting the mixture. Recycled catalyst was reused for several times without significant loss in its activity. Running the one-pot three-component reaction at room temperature, no use of eternal energy source and using a green solvent provide benign, mild, and environmentally friendly reaction conditions; as well, ease of catalyst recovering, catalyst recyclability, no use of column chromatography and good to excellent yields are extra advantages of this work.

A simple and efficient synthetic protocol has been developed involving a one-pot three-component reaction of a 2-chlorobenzazole, piperazine, and an arenesulfonyl chloride under aqueous conditions at room temperature in the absence of a catalyst, ligand, or base. By using this protocol, a variety of 2-[4-(arylsulfonyl)piperazin-1-yl]-1,3-benzothiazole, -1H-benzimidazole, and -1,3-benzoxazole derivatives were synthesized in excellent yields.

: An efficient stereoselective synthesis of 2,6-disubstituted-4-thiocyanatotetrahydropyrans has been developed through a one pot three-component reaction of aldehydes, trimethyl allylsilane and NH4SCN in the presence of BF3.Et2O at room temperature. The products are formed rapidly (10-30 min) in excellent yields (78-98%).

A new and efficient one-pot synthesis of polysubstituted pyrrole derivatives by three-component reaction between dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates, triphenylphosphine, 2-aminopyridin derivatives in the presence of arylglyoxals is described. The reactions were performed in dichloromethane at room temperature and neutral conditions and afforded high yields of products.

A novel series of N-functionalized 4-aryl-tetrahydrobiquinoline-2,5-(1H,3H)-diones were synthesized in high yields by a one-pot three-component reaction involving 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehydes, Meldrum’s acid, and enaminones (dimedone-based enaminones) in the presence of K2CO3 in CH3CN under reflux condition. To gain a deep insight on the mechanism of the reaction, an extensive series of quantum mechanics calculations in the framework of density functional theory (DFT) were carried out for supporting the suggested reaction pathway.

A copper(I)-mediated tandem three-component reaction using alkynes, azides, allyl iodides, CuI and NaNH2 is developed. The reactions proceed smoothly at room temperature to afford 5-allyl-1,2,3-triazoles, which can be further converted into 1,2,3-triazole-fused tricyclic scaffolds. This method features an efficient one-pot cascade route using commercial alkynes and affords the corresponding 5-allyl-1,2,3-triazoles with high yields and good selectivity under mild reaction conditions.

A one-pot three-component reaction promoted by choline chloride: zinc(II) chloride deepeutectic solvent (ChCl-ZnCl2 DES) in an aqueous medium for the synthesis of several merocyanin dyes based on isoxazol-5(4H)-ones is presented. This three-component approach is efficient, clean, experimentally simple, convenient, safe, and environmentally friendly. This reaction was performed at room temperature without using energy sources such as heat, microwave and ultrasound waves. Nonuse of toxic solvents, available materials, one-vessel, no wasted reagents, simple preparation, and recyclability of DES are other important points of this method that is significant from the perspective of green chemistry.

Recently, the efficient chemical fixation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into high value chemicals without using noble metal catalysts has become extremely appealing from the viewpoint of sustainable chemistry. In this work, a one-pot three component reaction of propargylic alcohols, anines and CO2 that can proceed in an atom economy and environmentally benign manner by combination of CuI and tetrabutylphosphonium imidazol ([P4444][Im]) as a catalyst was described. Catalysis studies indicate that this catalytic system is an effective catalyst for the conversion of CO2 into oxazolidinones at room temperature and ambient pressure without any solvent. The results provide a useful way to design novel noble metal-free catalyst systems for the transformation of CO2 into other valuable compounds.

Background: A green, recyclable and reusable chitosan catalyst has been utilized for the synthesis of 5-amino-2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazole-4,6-dicarbonitrile and its derivatives. Methods and Results: Three-component reaction protocol incorporates the reaction of aldehydes, malononitrile and rhodanine derivatives. This is examined as an efficient route for the synthesis of dicarbonitriles utilizing a green, biodegradable, environmentally benign, and easily available chitosan catalyst. In the reported protocol, catalyst can be recycled and not any substantial dropping in its catalytic activity during the recycling steps was obtained. Conclusion: A green and environmentally benign, one pot three-component protocol has been illustrated for the synthesis of 5-amino-2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazole-4,6-dicarbonitrile derivatives. Adequately yield products were gained via the natural catalytic approach with the recyclability of the catalyst. The use of chitosan represents this procedure as an attractive substitute for the synthesis of biaryls complex by multicomponent reaction condition.
