In this study, the degradation of Acid Orange 7 (AO7) in aqueous solutions by iron(III) under activation by persulfate (PS, S2O82-) oxidation and Visible (Vis) light (≥420 nm) exposure was performed. The efficiency of different systems including Fe3+/Vis, Fe3+/PS, PS/Vis and Fe3+/PS/Vis has been evaluated. It was found that the efficiency of Fe3+/PS and PS/Vis system was low, and only about 48% of AO7 was oxidized within 20 min of experiment time under Fe3+/Vis system action, and it was further improved to almost 95% within 20 min by Fe3+/PS/Vis system. Various process-dependent parameters, such as PS, Fe3+, dye concentration as well as initial pH were investigated to optimize the process. As results indicated, the dye's degradation efficiency increased with the increase of PS and Fe3+ concentration over the tested range. The pH had an insignificant effect on the degradation of AO7. In the present study, the adsorption of acid orange 7 (AO7) dye from aqueous solution by sugarcane bagasse (SB) and cetylpyridinium bromide (CPBr) modified sugarcane bagasse (SBC) was examined. SBC was prepared by reacting SB with different concentrations (0.1, 1.0 and 4.0 mM) of cationic surfactant, CPBr. The SB and SBC were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The adsorption experiments were carried out in a batch mode. The effect of initial AO7 concentrations (5-1000 mg/L), initial CPBr concentrations and pH of AO7 solution (2-9) on the adsorption capacity of SB and SBC were investigated. The experimental adsorption data were analyzed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption of AO7 onto SB and SBC followed Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models, respectively. The maximum uptake of AO7 was obtained by SBC4.0 (SB treated with 4.0 mMCPBr) with the adsorption capacity of 144.928 mg/g. The highest AO7 removal was found to be at pH 2 and 7 for SB and SBC, respectively. As a conclusion, sugarcane bagasse modified with CPBr can become an alternative adsorbent for the removal of anionic compounds in aqueous solution.

Textile industries discharge a large quantity of colored wastewater which is harmful to the ecosystem. In this study, two kinds of dyes were investigated: the mono azo Acid Orange 7 (AO7) and diazo Reactive Green 19 (RG19). The photocatalytic degradation of single (AO7, RG19) azo dye and binary (AO7 and RG19 mixture) azo dye aqueous solutions was photocatalyzed by commercial titanium dioxide (TiO2, P25) under solar light irradiation. The objectives of this study are to compare the photocatalytic degradation between single and binary azo dye aqueous solution and to study the various parameters such as the effect of different initial azo dye concentrations, different initial azo dye pH values, and compare the adsorption capacity of azo dyes with and without solar light irradiation, which influences the photocatalytic activities of single and binary azo dye aqueous solutions in a TiO2 suspension. The results showed that photocatalytic degradation of AO7 and RG19 in a single azo dye aqueous solution was faster than a binary azo dye solution under the solar light irradiation process. Chemical oxygen demand results revealed that complete mineralization could be achieved for both AO7 and RG19 azo dyes under solar light irradiation within 22 hours.
