An unprecedented visible-light inspired selective radical azidation of unactivated and diverse substituted vinylarenes with sulfonium iodate reagent has been realized. The intrinsic radical process triggered by light tolerated several synthetically useful functionalities enabling two new carbon-hetero bonds which display distinctive late-stage applications to biologically relevant scaffolds.

A metal-catalyst-free and redox-neutral innate difluoromethylthiolation method enabled by visible light is described. This protocol employs a shelf-stable and readily available electrophilic difluoromethylthiolating reagent, PhSO2SCF2H, and converts a broad spectrum of arenes and heteroarenes to difluoromethylthioethers without noble metals and stoichiometric amount of additives.

The rearrangement reaction of ammonium ylides furnishes valuable α,α-disubstituted amino esters. In this work, we describe the visible-light photolysis reaction of aryldiazoacetates in the presence of tertiary amines that react via a free ammonium ylide in a sigmatropic rearrangement reaction to provide amino esters in moderate to very good yields (33 examples, up to 97% yield).
