A noble-metal free FeCu based bimetallic catalyst system prepared by facile co-impregnation method was found to be a highly admirable for vapour phase selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol at ambient pressure.

In this work, we have developed a synergistic Pd/Cu catalyst system for the asymmetric allylation of glycine iminoesters/amides, affording a range of α-substituted α-amino acids/amides in high yields and with excellent enantioselectivities (88 → 99% ee).

The Pd-catalyzed oxidative coupling reaction of methyl o-toluate gives, in the presence of a Pd/1,10-phenanthroline(phen)/Cu catalyst, exclusively, the para-linked biphenyldicarboxylates 1, 2, and 3. On the other hand, the meta-linked biphenyldicarboxylates 4 and 5, were predominantly formed in a catalyst system of Pd/2,4-pentanedione(acacH)/Cu, and under similar conditions 6 and 7 were also obtained from the coupling reaction of methyl m-toluate and methyl p-toluate, respectively. A reaction scheme has been proposed.

A stereodivergent Pd/Cu catalyst system was developed, which was successfully applied to the asymmetric allylic alkylation of symmetrical 1,3-disubstituted allyl acetates with prochiral imino esters in a fully stereodivergent manner.
