AbstractStudies on liquid-liquid extraction and bulk liquid membrane (BLM) technique-based metal ion separation by a previously published Pb2+-selective acridono-18-crown-6 ether selector molecule were performed. The effects of the stirring speed, the quality of apolar organic membrane, the counterions of Pb2+, the pH of the aqueous phase, the concentration of the source phase, the concentration of the carrier in the BLM and the temperature on the Pb2+-separation were investigated. Moreover, the effects of the competitive inhibition due to the presence of Ag+, Ca2+, Co2+, Cu2+, K+, Mg2+, Na+ and Zn2+ as competing ions in a multicomponent aqueous source phase of different ion-concentrations were also studied. After a proper dilution of the multicomponent aqueous source phase, excellent Pb2+-selectivity was achieved without a significant reduction in the efficiency compared to the liquid membrane transport of single-component systems. Based on the BLM-cell studies the applied selector molecule proved to be suitable for the development of liquid membrane-based Pb2+-selective separation methods, which can be greatly aided by the analysis of the effects on the separation and by the optimization of the parameters of the process discussed here.

The study on the transport behavior of Cr(III), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Ag(I) through bulk liquid membrane using p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-tetradiethylacetamide as ions carrier has been conducted. The aims of this work are to determine the optimum condition, efficiency, and transport selectivity of the carriers for those ions. Both optimum condition and transport efficiency were obtained by determination of the concentration of transported ions with variation of the source phase pH, ion carrier concentration, the nature of decomplexant agent in the receiving phase, and transport time. The transport selectivity of the ion carrier was obtained from the ions competition transport experiments. The amount of Cr(III), Pb(II), Cd(II), and Ag(I) transported across liquid membrane were 11.6, 25.5, 39.5, and 42.1% respectively. The ion carrier is selective for Cd(II), Pb(II), Ag(I), and strongly depends on the nature of decomplexant agent as well as transport mechanism. The remarkable selectivity was shown by the ion carrier to Ag(I) when the transport process was carry out under high concentration of acid in the source phase.   Keywords: transport, p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-tetradiethylacetamide, efficiency, selectivity, bulk liquid membrane, heavy metals

 ABSTRACT The removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solutions had been employed throught bulk liquid membrane techniques with arrange the optimization conditions of transport Cu(II) interface system. The optimum conditions of transport were found to be 3.1510-4 M of Cu(II) at pH 3  in the source phase,  17.510-4 M oxine dissolved into chloroform as membrane phase, 0,15 M H2SO4 as acceptor in  receiving phase, stirring rate was 340 rpm and  it was found that the transport of Cu(II) to receiving phase reached 97.41% during 6 hours. The effect of addition  oleat acid 1.57  10-3 M as surfactant  in membrane phase resulted a rapidly time of  transport Cu(II) to be 3 hours, wherein Cu(II) transported  into  the receive phase reached 97.83%  and remained  in feed phase 0%. Keywords: bulk liquid membrane, oxine, oleat acid, Cu(II) )transport
