This review summarizes previous research on luminescent perovskites, including oxides and halides, with different structural dimensionality. The relationship between the crystal structure, electronic structure and properties is discussed in detail.

Abstract Chromium(II)tetrachloroaluminate can be prepared by reaction of chromium, chromium trichloride and aluminum trichloride in the molar ratio 1 : 1.94 : 5.79 or by reaction of stoichiometric amounts of chromium dichloride and aluminum trichloride. Sublimation of the compound yields phase-pure samples of colourless crystals. Cr(AlCl4)2 crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric orthorhombic space group Pca21 (No. 29), a = 1511.38(3), b = 604.71(1), c = 1301.76(3) pm. The aggregation of Cr(AlCl4)2 molecules leads to a square-bipyramidal coordination of the chromium atom typical of high-spin d4 ions due to the Jahn-Teller effect. The relationship to centrosymmetric Pd(AlCl4)2 (P21/c) which is built up of similar molecules was established by means of a group-subgroup symmetry tree. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility agrees with Curie-Weiss behaviour (μeff = 4.70 μB,Θ = −1.3 K).

We reported the crystal structures of TlBa 2 Ca 3 Cu 4 O 10.5 and Tl 2 Ba 2 CuO 6. The atomic parameters were determined by means of X-ray powder diffraction method. We also discussed the relationship between the crystal structure and properties as well as the relation among the crystal structures of the high T c superconductors.

AbstractIn this paper the relationships between the crystal structure, chemical composition and electronic structure of laser materials, and their optical properties are discussed. A brief description is given of the different laser activators and of the influence of the matrix on laser characteristics in terms of crystal field strength, symmetry, covalency and phonon frequencies. The last part of the paper lays emphasis on the means to optimize the matrix-activator properties such as control of the oxidation state and site occupancy of the activator and influence of its concentration.

The essays collected in this book represent recent advances in our understanding of speech acts-actions like asserting, asking, and commanding that speakers perform when producing an utterance. The study of speech acts spans disciplines, and embraces both the theoretical and scientific concerns proper to linguistics and philosophy as well as the normative questions that speech acts raise for our politics, our societies, and our ethical lives generally. It is the goal of this book to reflect the diversity of current thinking on speech acts as well as to bring these conversations together, so that they may better inform one another. Topics explored in this book include the relationship between sentence grammar and speech act potential; the fate of traditional frameworks in speech act theory, such as the content-force distinction and the taxonomy of speech acts; and the ways in which speech act theory can illuminate the dynamics of hostile and harmful speech. The book takes stock of well over a half century of thinking about speech acts, bringing this classicwork in linewith recent developments in semantics and pragmatics, and pointing the way forward to further debate and research.
