A novel catalyst, H4SiW12O40/SiO2was synthesized by a sol-gel technique, and characterized by FT-IR and XRD. Catalytic application of H4SiW12O40/SiO2for synthesis of acetals and ketals were tested. The variation of different reaction parameters, such as mole ratio of aldehyde/ketone to alcohols, catalyst dosage and reaction time on the yield of acetals and ketals were also studied. The results reveal that the H4SiW12O40/SiO2catalysis generally results in good yields of acetals and ketals under mild reaction conditions and the high activity and stability of the catalyst is well retained on recycling.

AbstractNanostructured polyaniline (PANI) was synthesised by the oxidation of aniline in a water/ isopropanol (propan-2-ol, IPA) (50 vol. %) mixture, without added acid, using ammonium peroxydisulfate (APS) as an oxidant. Influence of the IPA co-solvent and the reaction time on the molecular structure, morphology and properties of synthesised PANI samples was studied by FTIR, Raman, and UV-VIS spectroscopies, scanning and transmission electron microscopies (SEM and TEM), and conductivity measurements. The course of the reaction was followed by monitoring changes in the temperature and acidity of the reaction medium. The results were compared with those obtained for PANI prepared in water without IPA under the same reaction conditions. The importance of the solvation effects, dielectric constant of the solvent, and the enthalpy of mixing of IPA with water on the course of the polymerisation reaction and on the properties of polymeric products in the water/IPA medium in comparison with those in water was pointed out.

Direct vapor-phase methanol carbonylation, without any methyl iodide in the feed as a promoter, was carried out over NiCl2-CuCl2/HMOR catalysts. The results showed that NiCl2-CuCl2/HMOR catalysts exhibited high activity for methanol carbonylation. The optimum component of the composite catalyst was 5wt% NiCl2 and 15wt% CuCl2. In addition, the effects of reaction pressure and temperature on catalytic performance of 5%NiCl2-15%CuCl2/HMOR catalyst were investigated. It was revealed that methanol conversion of 84.2% and carbonylation selectivity of 73.5% could be obtained under the optimum reaction conditions of P=1.5MPa and T=623K.

Methanesulfonic acid has been found to be a highly effective catalyst for a convenient and one-pot synthesis of 2-substituted benzoxazoles by the reaction of 2-aminophenol with acid chlorides, generated in situ from carboxylic acids. Aryl, heteroaryl, and arylalkyl carboxylic acids provided excellent yields of the corresponding benzoxazoles. The reaction conditions were compatible with various substituents such as chloro, bromo, nitro, methoxy, cyclopentyloxy, phenoxy, thiophenoxy, and conjugated double bonds. Benzoxazole formation was found to be general with respect to substituted 2-aminophenols.

We report on the highly efficient epoxidation of low-molecular-weight and polymeric olefins catalyzed by a supramolecular manganese porphyrin complex using molecular oxygen as an oxidant and an aldehyde as a co-reductant. At ambient temperature and under optimized reaction conditions, the catalyst showed high activity and stereoselectivity. The efficiency of the supramolecular manganese porphyrin was higher than that of a reference porphyrin catalyst, possibly because it was more stable under the applied reaction conditions. Mechanistic studies suggest that a manganese oxo porphyrin complex may be an intermediate in the epoxidation reaction.

An intramolecular cyclization of various α-acyl β-amino acrylamides in the presence of PIFA and TFA is described. This transformation features mild reaction conditions, simple execution, high chemoselectivity, and metal catalyst-free oxidation, and thereby, provides not only an alternative protocol for the construction of N–O bond, but also an efficient and straightforward synthesis of substituted isoxazol-3(2H)-ones from readily available α-acyl acrylamides.
