For a family of uranium pyrazolylborate complexes, we observe correlations between excited-state mixing and slow relaxation of magnetization for U(iii) complexes, and U⋯B distances in U(iv) complexes.

The complexes [Ln2(hfac)6(L)]·nC6H14 (Ln = Dy (1) n = 0, Yb (2) n = 1) with the L chiral 3,14-di-(2-pyridyl)-4,13-diaza[6]helicene ligand (hfac− = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonate) have been synthesized in their racemic form and structurally and magnetically characterized. Both complexes behave as field-induced single molecule magnets in the crystalline phase. These magnetic properties were rationalized by ab initio calculations.

We report the synthesis, structure, and magnetic properties of a new dinuclear dysprosium(III) complex based on a 3-methoxycinnamate ligand. The centrosymmetric complex exhibits a field-induced SMM behavior. In contrast to the previously reported lanthanide-based systems with cinnamate derivatives that relax through a combination of Raman and direct processes, an Orbach process is also involved in highlighting the role of the structural organization over the spin-lattice relaxations.

Highly stable 3D Ln-MOFs were constructed. The Eu-MOF shows good luminescence properties while the Dy-MOF shows a typical single-molecule magnetic behavior with a slow relaxation of magnetization.
