A new electrochemical biosensor based on the immobilization of horseradish peroxidase(HRP) on TiO2 nanoneedles modified electrodes has been fabricated. The direct electrochemical response of HRP immobilized on the modified electrode was dramatically enhanced. The immobilized HRP displayed a couple of stable and well-defined redox peaks with a formal potential of -0.379 V (vs. SCE). The HRP/TiO2 nanoneedles modified electrode exhibited a remarkable electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of H2O2. The amperometric response to H2O2 showed a linear range of 4–700μmol/L, with the calculated detection limit of 0.78 μmol/L at a signal-to-noise ratio of three. The modified electrode displayed an acceptable reproducibility and good stability. The new HRP/TiO2 nanoneedles matrix is expected to have wide applications for enzymes and proteins immobilization and direct electron transfer study and opened a way for low conductivity electrode biosensors.

The aesthetic of the fragment is examined in detailed analyses of the Hitchcockian frame. The frame is both the formal composition underpinning mise en scène and the opening into the infinite play of fragmented images within visual, aural, and narrative form. The frame is a site of formal “expressivity,” “abstraction,” “topographic representation,” and “schematization.” The fragmented frame is revealed in the modernist experimentation of form through color, line, and shape in North by Northwest, the topographic frame in The Birds, and the canting of the visual frame in Shadow of a Doubt. The chapter concludes that the representational image forming the diegesis is overwhelmed in Hitchcock’s experimental works by the formal potential of abstract shape and pattern.

A theoretical analysis of reversible and kinetically controlled electrode reactions in conditions of alternative differential multi-pulse voltammetry (ADMPV) is presented. The degree of reversibility, as well as symmetry of the electron transfer reaction, can be estimated by visual inspection of the ADMP voltammogram. The values of electron transfer coefficient and the standard rate constant of a simple electrode reaction Ox + ne− ⇄ Red, can be determined from the slope of linear dependence of the peak currents ratio on the logarithm of pulse duration. The criteria for recognition of reversible and kinetically controlled electrode reactions by alternative differential multi-pulse voltammetry are given.

Abstract Mono-, few-, and multilayer graphene is explored towards the electrochemical Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER). Careful physicochemical characterisation is undertaken during electrochemical perturbation revealing that the integrity of graphene is structurally compromised. Electrochemical perturbation, in the form of electrochemical potential scanning (linear sweep voltammetry), as induced when exploring the HER using monolayer graphene, creates defects upon the basal plane surface that increases the coverage of edge plane sites/defects resulting in an increase in the electrochemical reversibility of the HER process. This process of improved HER performance occurs up to a threshold, where substantial break-up of the basal sheet occurs, after which the electrochemical response decreases; this is due to the destruction of the sheet integrity and lack of electrical conductive pathways. Importantly, the severity of these changes is structurally dependent on the graphene variant utilised. This work indicates that multilayer graphene has more potential as an electrochemical platform for the HER, rather than that of mono- and few-layer graphene. There is huge potential for this knowledge to be usefully exploited within the energy sector and beyond.

Amorphous nickel hydroxide powder codoped with Fe3+ and PO43- was synthesized by micro-emulsion precipitation method combined with rapid freezing technique. The microstructures of the prepared samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, and Raman spectra. The electrochemical performance of the prepared samples was analyzed by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and charge-discharge tests. The results showed that this amorphous nickel hydroxide codoped with Fe3+ and PO43- resulted in more structural defects within the nickel hydroxide. The Fe3+ and PO43- codoping could increase the specific discharge capacity and improve the electrochemical reversibility of the amorphous nickel hydroxide.
