Abstract We determined the optimum dispersant to separate bulk Nb2Se9 material into 1D chain units. The Nb2Se9, which had a negative zeta potential (−43.3 mV), showed acidic characteristics and strongly bonded with the amine head of octadecyl amine through a charge transfer (from the amine to Se atoms) reaction. The steric hindrance of the octadecyl tail resulted in excellent dispersion of Nb2Se9 (down to nanometre-sized mono-chains).

1D chain Ca(II) coordination polymer was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, The results of crystal structure show that each Ca(II) ion forms eight-coordinated and the complex formed one dimensional chain structure by the oxygen atoms of carboxylate and water bridged. The antibacterial activity of the Ca(II) coordination polymer and the ligand were tested, the results show that the complex show considerable antibacterial activity against escherichia coli, bacillus subtilis and staphylococcus white.

Ferromagnetic coupling exists in an uneven chain-like copper(II) complex with both end-on azido and syn-syn carboxylato bridges, (Cu3(L)2(N3)4(H2O)3)n (1, HL = 6-hydroxynicotinic acid). It is the first example of one-dimensional (1D) chain-like copper(II) coordination polymer showing both metamagnetic behavior and long-range magnetic ordering (Tc = 6.7 K), thanks to the interchain hydrogen bonds, which make a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular array of the entire molecular structure and mediate the interchain antiferromagnetic interaction.

Two carboxylate-bridged one-dimensional chain complexes, {[MnII(MeOH)2][FeIII(L)2]2}n (1) and {[MnII(DMF)2][MnIII(L)2]2·DMF}n (2) [H2L = ((2-carboxyphenyl)azo)-benzaldoxime], containing a low-spin [FeIII(L)2]− or [MnIII(L)2]− unit were synthesized. Magnetic measurements show that the adjacent high-spin MnII and low-spin MIII ions display weak antiferromagnetic coupling via the syn–anti carboxyl bridges, with J = −0.066(2) cm−1 for complex 1 and J = −0.274(2) cm−1 for complex 2.

Abstract A new metal-organic coordination polymer, [Pb(L)(adip)0.5] (1) was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions by using 1-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol (HL) and adipic acid (H2adip). The complex 1 was characterized by diffraction and elemental analyses. In complex 1, the binuclear [Pb2L2] units were formed by the OH-deprotonation bridging neighboring Pb(II) atoms, and the adipate linked the binuclear [Pb2L2] units to form a symmetric one-dimensional chain. The 1D chain was further extended to the 2D supramolecular layer structure through π-π interactions between the L ligands.

The original driving force for the exfoliation of RbNbO3 to form one-dimensional (1D) niobate nanobelts is the combination of the hydration of Rb+ and the hydrolysis of (NbO3)nn− and the 1D ultrathin nanobelts show high photocatalytic activity.

The complex (Ho(IA)3(H3O)(H2O)) n(0.5 nHg2I6) (HIA = isonicotinic acid) has been synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction and has a one-dimensional (1D) chain-like structure. It has an emission band in the green region of 542 nm, which could originate from the 5 S2 → 5 I8 transition of the Ho3+ ion. The compound possesses Commission Internationale de I’Éclairage chromaticity coordinates of (0.2065, 0.4969) and has a wide optical band gap of 2.32 eV, as found by solid-state UV-Vis diffuse reflectance measurements.
