A high yield of HMF is directly obtained from aquatic microalgae over a commercial acidic zeolite under mild conditions. Experimental results reveal that proteins and lipids in microalgal cells benefit the HMF stability in water.

In this work simple efficient, one pot and environmentally friendly method was developed for the synthesis of 2-Aryl-1H-benzoxazole derivatives at 80º C using ortho-aminophenol and various aldehydes. It has been found that Dowex50W is an effective catalyst to prepare moderate to high yield of a variety of benzoxazole derivatives through a clean and simple process. Aqueous medium, green methodology, rapid reaction, reusability of heterogeneous catalyst are the great advantages of this protocol.

An effective technique was proposed for the synthesis of novel α-aminophosphonates: a three-component one-pot condensation reaction of aniline, aromatic aldehydes, and triphenyl phosphite in the presence of (MIL-100(Fe)) as a heterogeneous catalyst. Initially, MIL-100(Fe) was synthesized using H3BTC and ferric nitrate at low temperature and atmospheric pressure. Further, MIL-100(Fe) was characterized using various techniques such as XRD, BET surface area, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Herein, MIL-100(Fe) showed exceptional catalytic performance for the synthesis of α-aminophosphonate and its derivatives compared with conventional solid catalysts, and even homogeneous catalysts. The study demonstrated that MIL-100(Fe) is an ecofriendly and easily recyclable heterogeneous catalyst in Kabachnick reactions for α-aminophosphonate synthesis, with high yield (98%) and turnover frequency (TOF ~ 3.60 min−1) at room temperature and a short reaction time (30 min).

Sodium aluminate is presented as a highly active heterogeneous catalyst able to convert a range of alcohols into the corresponding mixed carbonate esters, in high yield and under green conditions. The reaction is carried out using dimethyl carbonate both as a reactant and solvent, at 90°C. Allylic, aliphatic and aromatic alcohols are converted in good yields. The solid catalyst is shown to be truly heterogeneous, resistant to leaching, and recyclable.

A simple and appropriate procedure for the synthesis of quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione derivatives from isocyanides, aniline and isocyanate via the Cu-catalyzed intramolecular C-H activation reaction is reported. The advantages of this method are one-pot conditions, accessible starting materials- catalyst, high yield of products, and short reaction times. The structures are confirmed spectroscopically (1H- and 13C-NMR, IR and EI-MS) and by elemental analyses.

Abstract: A new solid catalyst was synthesized from an ionic liquid and heterogenised by changing anion reaction. The new heterogeneous acidic catalyst was characterized by SEM images, EDS analysis, AFM images, Ft-IR, HNMR, 13CNMR and Mass Spectroscopy. It was applied to synthesis of tri-arylmethanes throughout one-pot tri-component reactions among aromatic aldehydes, N,N-dimethylaniline and other carbonic nucleophiles such as anisole and indole. Hence, synthesis of convenient and inexpensive micro-heterogeneous catalyst was introduced, the efficiency of which was confirmed. Also, various useful products were synthesized throughout this simple and clean procedure.

Background: This paper reports synthesis, cytotoxic activity, and apoptosis inducing effect of a novel series of styrylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives. Objective: In this study, anti-cancer activity of novel styrylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines was evaluated. Methods: Styrylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives 4a-o were synthesized through a one-pot three-component reaction of 2-aminopyridines, cinnamaldehydes, and isocyanides in high yield. All synthesized compounds 4a-o were evaluated against breast cancer cell lines including MDA-MB-231, MCF-7, and T-47D using MTT assay. Apoptosis was evaluated by acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining, cell cycle analysis, and TUNEL assay as the mechanism of cell death. Results: Most of the synthesized compounds exhibited more potent cytotoxicity than standard drug, etoposide. Induction of apoptosis by the most cytotoxic compounds 4f, 4g, 4j, 4n, and 4m was confirmed through mentioned methods. Conclusion: In conclusion, these results confirmed the potency of styrylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines for further drug discovery developments in the field of anti-cancer agents.
