An effective strategy to detect biological thiols (biothiols), including glutathione (GSH), cysteine (Cys), and homocysteine (Hcy), holds significant incentive since they play vital roles in many cellular processes and are closely related to many diseases. Here, we demonstrated that hybrid nanoflowers composed of crystalline copper phosphate and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) served as a functional unit exhibiting dual catalytic activities of biothiol oxidase and HRP, yielding a cascade reaction system for a sensitive one-pot fluorescent detection of biothiols. The nanoflowers were synthesized through the anisotropic growth of copper phosphate petals coordinated with the amine/amide moieties of HRP, by simply incubating HRP and copper(II) sulfate for three days at room temperature. Copper phosphates within the nanoflowers oxidized target biothiols to generate H2O2, which activated the entrapped HRP to oxidize the employed Amplex UltraRed substrate to produce intense fluorescence. Using this strategy, biothiols were selectively and sensitively detected by monitoring the respective fluorescence intensity. This nanoflower-based strategy was also successfully employed for reliable quantification of biothiols present in human serum, demonstrating its great potential for clinical diagnostics.

A facile, one-pot design strategy to construct chromium(III)-phthalocyanine chlorides (Pc’CrCl) to form porous organic polymer (POP-Pc’CrCl) using solvent knitting Friedel-Crafts reaction (FCR) is described. The generated highly porous POP-Pc’CrCl is functionalized by post-synthetic exchange reaction with nucleophilic cobaltate ions to provide an heterogenized carbonylation catalyst (POP-Pc’CrCo(CO)4) with Lewis acid-base type bimetallic units. The produced porous polymeric catalyst is identical to that homogeneous counterpart in structure and coordination environments. The catalyst is very selective and effective for mono carbonylation of epoxide into corresponding lactone and the activities are comparable to those observed for a homogeneous Pc’CrCo(CO)4 catalyst. The (POP-Pc’CrCo(CO)4) also displayed a good catalytic activities and recyclability upon successive recycles.

For exploring the interesting solvent effect on structure and morphology, a variety of MgWO4 nanoparticles were prepared by a one-pot solvothermal method with different proportional solvents of water and ethylene glycol. The results showed that monoclinic wolframite crystalline structure of MgWO4 was successfully synthesized, corresponding to two standard cards of MgWO4 (JCPDS No. 27-0789) and MgWO4 (JCPDS No. 19-0776), respectively. The morphology of MgWO4 nanoparticles presents eight different shapes and orderly transforms from one shape to another with increasing water content in mixed EG-water solvents, and a possible mechanism was proposed. The catalytic activities of these MgWO4 nanoparticles on the thermal decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP) were compared using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method, and found to present good change rule with particle size.
